i had heard prices in the 75 to 80k range which is a bit steep for detroit muscle. 60ish would be a lot easier to warm up to

Following the same pricing strategy of the C5 Z06, it ran about the same price as a well equipped C5 drop top. A well optioned C6 convertable is currently about $62,000. Thus yeilding a $62,000 to $65,000 potential MSRP for the Z06. Knowing that a Cadillac XLR is priced at $76,400 (I am also a Cadillac dealer). GM would never price a Corvette higher than a Cadillac. GM would also never let a Cadillac be faster than the fastest Corvette (XLR V).

Yeah, but the C5 Z06 didn't have a unique to the model bigger engine with titanium con rods, forged crank, dry sump lubrication, etc.,allowing a 7100 rpm redline massively upgraded brakes, wider bodywork, etc.etc.
Corvette grand puba Dave Hill said in so many words that 6 of the cars and a nice motorcycle or speedboat can be bought for one Carrera GT. ( He actually said the next cheapest car available in US with a better power to weight ratio ) That means 68-70 K to me before options .

Only time will tell to see if this redneck machine will be in the "supercar" category.

I would take ONE Carrera GT over a fleet of Z06's in every color, and a free Suburban thrown in, as well as the aforementioned motorcycle.

A Z06, modded or not, will NEVER be anything close to a Carrera GT, that I can guarantee you.

I think that for an American car @ $65k with those numbers is respectible. My businees partner got out of 95 diablo that he had for 7 years( it cost him over $22k to fix reacurring problems), and got into a new viper- and he loves it.

I bought my first new vette in 1968 coupe with 427 CI, 435 hp and 460 lbs of torque. Since then I have had 3 more but I dont think I could step down to a new Z06.

Something is missing in the Vettes. I do admit, that 68 Vette was very very fast. I was 18 then and maybe if I drove it today I wouldnt be so amazed but at the time when those 3 dueces kicked it,, that thing was a monster.

I will drive the Z06 next year and see how it feels. Doubt I will buy one though.

Are you implying anything "American" is equivalent to " redneck " ? Someone native to certain parts of Marin County or the west side of LA will disagree with that association . OTOH, those living in the Inland Empire or Central Valley ...

I'm not dissin the IE, it's just been that way to the " coastal" types since the orange grove days of yore . Same with the cotton fields/Okie days of the Central Valley, from where I hail, where long time folks still speak with a twang like locals Merle Haggard and Buck Owens .

Tyson-my fryende-

what a silly comment! a 65k car vs a 450k car with 85% of the performance. a new bumper/repair is over 50K for the CGT, why not buy a Z06 with that $???????

us gold chainers will have GT2 performance from our Z06's for 1/3 the price [retail], and the other 135 can be spent on an AM and a used elise.

you're just a car snob!!!
