Anyone new to Vettes or becoming interested in the new Z06 should understand one 50 y/o inviolate fact about Corvette marketing : in order to move 30-35K units per year , some to the same repeat customers , they must make it worthwhile to them by continously upgrading one fairly significant part of the car yearly. It's very different from German makers or the Japanese who make minor cosmetic upgrades until half way through the model cycle , then maybe a " special " version the last 6-12 months to clear the showrooms. You have to be comfortable with that and many long time Corvette people expect it ( and marketing can get the car in mags every year ) . Porsche keeps the 911 in the public mind by introducing 13 variants so that there is magazine hype every 6 months for the range.

I disagree that the Vette is 85% of a Carrera GT. I doubt it is even 85% the car that a Stradale is, even if it is faster in a straight line. Seeing as how the CGT is 300% the car a Stradale is, this would make the value proposition of a Z06 at most 28.33%. This would make the performance value (excluding, cache, luxury, build quality, etc.) approximately $125,000. Still not bad for the Vette.

A Carrera GT is like a cross-breed between a GT3-RS and a McLaren F1 with some Boxster thrown in for good measure. If you look at it that way, it's really a performance bargain and eventually will be the greatest performance steal for years to come.

As for the GT2, I'd rather have ONE GT2 than three American cars. Besides, the Vette will never have the cache of the GT2. If you disagreed with me, you wouldn't be hunting for another GT2, would you? Every time you disparage that car, you are always somehow looking for another one and it's the one girlfriend you keep going back to because the sex is so good even though she might not be as hot as the Ferrari on the outside. Hmmmmm....

is it me, or do you come up w/ some of the most rediculous comparisons at times

I would take ONE Carrera GT over a fleet of Z06's in every color, and a free Suburban thrown in, as well as the aforementioned motorcycle.

A Z06, modded or not, will NEVER be anything close to a Carrera GT, that I can guarantee you.
Nice comparison there.

I have been looking for a car to compiment my TT and was reading some mags about the new z06. Needless to say, it is fairly impressive on paper. My father currently has 3 vettes including the 67 stingray and a 78 pacecar so if I want I can drive one anytime. However, I have been recently looking at getting a 360 used. The problem is that a voice keeps wispering in my ear to consider this car. any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys.
maybe. it's gonna be bad a## and u can thrash the bejesus out of it on the track with silly low consumable and maintenance costs. why not? watt has a point re: the CGT and potential smack up costs - not to mention PCCB replacement costs, $25k clutch, $30k for 4 wheels, $9k for pitted windshield replacement, $75k for cracking the three carbon fiber undercarriage panels, etc.

oh yeah, and GM is openly warranting occasional track use.

i really like it in black. to me the scoop behind the front wheel is totally unnecessary and ruins the lines of the car.

any word on a release date yet?
