blowing engines at what power
blowing engines at what power
just wondering at what kind of power levels do these engines start to pop at. i know tunes and mileage play a factor too. just like to hear some stories. thanks guys
What do you mean by "blowing"?
I blew out a headgasket at 530whp and 50K miles.
Rods are known to bend at 600+ whp. But some say much more than that if the tuning is spot on and/or quality race gas is used. Powell is up there 7-800rwhp and has had no issues.
Their is plenty of posts on this subject if you do a search.

and so does bad gas and not watching your AFR's and over boosting and 10+ more reasons to go along with the ones i told you.
I'm make over 720 to the wheels and its running good everyday.

Tune, gas, operator error are all the biggies. As for me, I'm comfortable with running low 700 rwhp on a stock internal engine.
Every couple of years it seems the bar is raised as to what is considered a safe power level for a stock internal engine. I asked Todd K (my tuner) something along these lines a couple of years ago when I had my 18g setup. Todd said that on a stock engine he doesn't even begin to get nervous until the 700 rwhp area. I don't know when he starts to break a sweat though lol.

well i had a small setup gt28's making ata guess from 500-560whp(a stretch at most) and popped a head gasket. the first time it bent a rod with same setup. tune and fuel is a big deal.
there are many many people who wont talk about their popped motors and the causes

From what I've seen, they can go anywhere from the mid 500 rwhp range all the way up into the 700 range. you don't hear about every motor that pops here in the forums... tuner, quality of gas, previous wear and tear on the motor all play a role.

Can you tell me about the Corvette at what power do engines start blowing ??I know they are great cars,i like them a lot. Just curious.Thank you.
Hey Art howya doin?
With my latest mods (full 3 inch BBI exhaust and the larger, 83 lb injectors) I am running 1.28 bars on 93 pump and my car is a beast, making what feels like close to 700.
I have been cleared by Todd K to run 1.65 on C16 so I should break 800 hopefully.

what i have learned, that the problem is not the high rwhp in high rpm...the problem is the boost or ignition angle at the mid range rpm...that depends what size of turbos and what boost/or igniton angle is programmed at this rpm...smaller turbos are more agressive in the midrange rpm and more critical at high boost applications for a stock engine
