My wife was just hit!
Man sorry about yuor wife health and it seems like the accident is getting complicated for you because now you have also to deal with own insurance.Good luck and push them hard with a good lawyer.
If possible, get more than 1 estimate. This will help back your case as to the actual cost to fix your car.
I would tell you that if you have several estimates that show a certain figure for repair and all damages can be directly related to the accident, you have good standing to contest the ins co's estimate for repair. Further, they are most likely calculating their cost based on replacement parts, or like kind and quality parts. most Ins Contracts state that the insurance company can use these parts if they can find them. Unless you have an OEM endorsement that you've added to your contract (something every Porsche owner should do). This, at a minimal cost to you, will only allow your car to be repaired with OEM parts through your own Ins Co.
In your situation, if they send you a check for the money, I wouldn't cash it or it could be considered an acceptance of their offer. Some companies may consider that $15k to be a minimal undesputed amount as they know thats the least they're going to have to pay for your car and it should be enough to get the repairs rolling, trhen work out the final cost later when the actual bill comes in.
But like I said, if possible, get several other shops to give estimates that are in line with what your repaif facility stated to you. If the Ins Co still won't move, mention the words "bad faith" to your adjuster and things will happen for you really quick.

I also have the Diminished Value guy, going to give him a call next week.
The insurance company wants to pay $60 an hour labor for a Mercedes tech which is $35 less than what they actually make.
It is all moot since the engine cannot be repaired.

sean what are you trying to do get the car fixed to oem standards or get it totaled and cash out?
if you want it totaled get more estimates, if you want it fixed and paid for diminished value you should be having a consolation with a lawyer.

Sunil at Motorwerks took the fenders off and there was pretty massive frame damage that you could not see w/ them on.
My wife said when she was hit she it was so hard that the car went over two separate curbs. The curb impact was extremely hard...so hard it bent the ROOF!.
Sunil said the engine chassis is smashed badly, and when he tried to start the engine it went "clunk clunk clunk" and then died.
I have asked him repeatedly if he is sure the car is totaled and he said yes, absolutely.
However the insurance company wants an itemized list...he was at 19K in damage on Monday and that is not counting the engine which costs 9K.

According to Sunil the car cannot be repaired properly, and if it could it would cost more than 30K. However the diminished value would be so bad that the repaired car would not be worth 30K.
Update: My wifes C4 and 5 discs are compressed and she is still having regular pain. She does have a lawyer and she is seeing a chiropractor 3-4 times a week. Her FP sent her to see a surgeon as well but she is very much afraid of surgery and it will be a last ditch option.
As to my car, my insurance comp (Amica) low balled the estimate, cutting me a check for $15K. However Sunil at Motorwerks said that there was much more extensive damage...especially major frame damage (so bad even the roof was bent) and furthermore, the engine is toast.
However my insurance company is refusing to believe that the engine is really damaged...is it time for me to lawyer up as well?

I am...I already paid my Diminished value guy $650 for a report I don't need, going to see if he will look at the car again.
well if you get 2 different shops saying that the car is mangled ... i dont see what the issue is , or how the insurance can say otherwise .
Call Sam at Collision Plus, 7139885489, if you want the best advice and a solid guy in your corner to get you the money you want on the car. These guys have over 25 years experience dealing with these insurance *******s. At the very least he will have some good advice for you.
Tell him Clay sent you.
Good luck with your wife.

Sean, a few points...
1. Post pics of the damage, let us see what we're working with.
2. $650 for a diminished value claim? Damn! I paid around $299 when I got hit in my IS350.

Sunil has everything...he is finishing the report, the Ins Comp wants every part itemized and he is working w/ the Merc dealership to finalize it, says it will be done by tomorrow.
Right now we are at a hair under 20 K in repairs, and that is not counting the 9K for the engine. If all repairs are done...and that would mean straightening the mangled frame, the car might be worth 24K tops to anyone foolish enough to buy it.
