Installing JIC coilovers. Any recomendations?

Im finally getting these coilovers installed in the next couple weeks. Im having my friend who is a porsche tech do it. Problem is he nor I have installed these before. Are there any tips to installing and adjusting the dampners??
Hes installed plenty of suspensions on porcshes, just not this one. Anything i should let him know.
Also, what is the best setting for those, and what dirrection turns them soft/stiff.
thanks,

josh.

I'd like to know this as well. My JICs are currently sitting in my garage awaiting the time to put them on.

Have fun. Just spent 3 days getting them in and they are incredible but with any advanced suspension... they can be a pain.

1. Watch out for the drop links. You may need to get curved ones.
2. If you want GT2 spec ride height you will have to adjust the primary spring perch which is not recommended by the factory. Alternative spring rates and lengths may be required.
3. Check all bolts on the assembly for tightness, especially the one at the top of the strut on the front. Even though it comes fully assembled, one was not securely tightened.

Getting alignement next week and will post additional issues if necessary. The responce and ride is very firm, responsive, and solid. Can't wait to feel it totally dialed in.

These are the specs I was given for setting up the JIC's

"This is a good aggressive street alignment for a 996 or TT. Its probably too much camber if running wide 19's though - more suited for 18's and aggressive driving. If the car is doing mostly highway miles I'd reduce front and rear camber by about 0.4 deg."

GT3 street alignment:
Rear Axle:

Camber: -1.50 degrees +/- .10 degrees

Toe: +08' +/- 05' Total Toe: +16' +/- 10' axle angle: 0' +/- 10'

Front Axle:

Caster: +8 degrees +/- 3 degrees

Camber: -1 Degree +/- .10 degrees

Toe: +03' +/- 03' Total Toe: +05' +/1 05'

Instalation was day 1, Britt brought it back to check everything over on day 3- found the sway bar (originally I set at JIC factory reccomended 32mm on either end of drop link) to be bouncing off the lower control arm. Making adjustment to the drop links however did not clear up the noise over rough patches. Turns out the left front upper shock nut was not tightened down enough FROM JIC. Needed about 2 mm more. Though it was never in any danger of coming off, it was enough to cause a rattle. As an installer i probably should have checked both nuts while the struts were on the bench but they were very obviously tightened down at the factory (they were not just finger tight) and they were sold as a fully assembled unit requiring ride height adjustment only. You can bet those are going to get checked on every JIC install from here on out.

I told Britt something must be loose somewhere, glad you found it! JIC's can be stressful, probably took a couple years off my life

I've installed lots of different types of coil-overs for Porsche, Audi and BMW but initially, these were kind of a pain in the ***. Specs and instructions as to how they designed these to be set up and adjusted were not particularly good. With my background and decent specifications, i can do pretty much anything- now everything is crystal clear. Doesn't help that someone fell asleep at the assembly line when they put the struts together. Live and learn.

What I have learned in this business is do not leave your destiny in someone else's hands because you will get burned
That top nut should have been torqued to spec from the factory

When my JIC's were shipped to me the morons installed the rear 16kg springs on the front struts and vice versa and they were also the wrong length as well, took me a while to figure this out, screwed up my alignment rack for 2 weeks
When I called JIC themselves for support they basically said you are on your own
After I straightened it all out and got the car perfect, 2 weeks later the r/front strut went bad, had one overnighted from JIC on a Saturday for huge shipping and they sent me a REAR
When they finally sent me a front 3 days later the threads on the strut body were cut wrong so that was junk as well

Oh well like you said live and learn

These ones im installing are used. Actually bought them from Sharkster. Maybe he can chime in and let me know if the previous owner had the ride hight at gt2 spec already. then i dont have to mess with it. I dont have instructions, just hoping my tech can do the job. I am going to print this thread out and give it to him. Maybe that could answer all his questions before he has any.
thanks

josh.

phillym5,

If you are in Philly bring it to my shop in Bloomfield, NJ and for sure it will be right including the alignment
Let me know if you are interested, I know these suspensions inside and out and run it on my personal car
