Garage doors

Hey, I just recently bought a new house, and the 3rd garage has a 11' ceiling, and looks like there is enough space for a lift, however, the damn garage door opens up 2' below the ceiling. I just saw this in the off topic forum of this garage door that appears to roll up.

Anyone have any info on this?

It's a commercial roll-up (loading dock) door. Look in your local phone book under industrial/commercial doors. They start around $500 and go up depending on size and options. Remote control electric operators will add a pretty penny - at least another several hundred.

I have the exact same problem in my new house....but I've been told you can raise the rails to be much closer to the ceiling.

I'd also be interested in those doors, wonder if they make em for a wide (i.e. 2-car garage) version.

Have your local garage door installer raise the rails and install an additional panal at the top of the current door. Should'nt cost more than a few hundred dollars depending on what kind of doors your garage has.

I have a four post lift in my garage and had the same problem. Called overhead doors and they raised the rails and added another section of door. Its been a few years since, but I believe the price was close to $1K.

WOW! A $1000? I just had a 17 1/2 foot wide door with rails put in and the total cost of $830. Paneled alluminum and fully insulated. Included 3 ful width braces. Things sure are expensive in Atlanta.

Is the exterior brushed aluminum onyour door, or painted? I've been looking for a aluminum door that looks like stainless on the outside.

KPV had this issue fixed in his house. Do a search I think you will find he just raised the rails.

You can get flat-faced overhead doors (instead of the normal corrugated look). Then you can just paint the face to match your house.

It is ust a standard aluminum with raised panels, factory finish paint.

I have a pitched garage roof, and glassgaragedoors.com quoted me $500 to run the rails along the pitch of the roof as opposed to 90 degrees out. So, you should definitely be able to get a company to hug the rails along the roof for around that price. I just don't know if you'll find a commercial door that will be aesthetically to your liking, Shank.

I was quoted $1,200 just to raise the rails. I will try your contact Stephen. Anyone else know a company in the Chicago area?
