Question Ruf Suspension Upgrade

I am looking to upgrade the suspension on my '04 C2 and was going to do the PSS9 until a buddy introduced me to the folks at RUF. Now I am a bit confused and am unsure of whether to go with the PSS9, or do the RUF version. There is a fairly significant price difference between the two, and thus I am looking for anyone who might have experience with both setups. Is there a noticeable difference between them that justifies the higher cost, or would I merely be paying more for the RUF name, were I to choose them.

I have the Ruf, I love it but I know its the same suspension. Ruf custom valves the shocks of the PSS9's. Save your $$, imo.

Paul -

Thanks for the feedback. I felt that $5k was a bit rich for the RUF setup, particularly since I saw no real differences in the equipment. I would still appreciate hearing if anyone has driven both setups and has opinions, one over another.

Pippin,

There is a big difference in the two. I have the Ruf and love it. These are built for Ruf to Rufs specs they also come with the Ruf sway bar. Most other PSS9's do not include the sway bar I had Vipertestarossa set my car up. It handles and rides real nice. Do your home work! They are not the same. I think KPV has the Motons and he did his research. Vipertestarossa works on Porsches in his own shop he has the Jic's. They cost the most but if they have them they are the best. I think the Ruf is in the middle of the regular PSS9 and what these guys have.

And they come w/the Ruf name.
I have seen both, they're the same. Like I said, Ruf valves the shocks differently. Ruf markets this as "built to RUF specs". Techart used to market the PSS9's before they were available here with their own name, and charge 5k. Techart though developed their own suspension when the PSS9's came over here. Ruf is able to market a good, reliable suspension, tweak it slightly, slap the Ruf name on there and make some $$.

When I bought mine, Ruf said "we developed our suspension to use w/the stock sway bar" because they didn't have one yet. Now, it comes w/one...

But like I said, I love mine. I would've liked to have saved a few grand though.

Go with the RUF, major difference between the regular PSS9
My car had no travel when I had the PSS9's and lowered ride height, thats one reason I swapped to the JIC's

If I were in the market right now for a suspension I would not hesitate to install the RUF in my personal car

Scott's car is proof that they are not just revalved PSS9's

If you lower your car to GT2 or below ride height with regular PSS9's you WILL have issues!

I wanted to thank each of you for your comments and opinions. When I purchased my car, I was completely unaware of how large the performance aftermarket was, and y'all have helped me determine the direction that I want to take the car. Looks like its time to vist Wayne at RUF, to see what kind of deal we can cut.

I have the Ruf suspension (PSS9 with rear sway bar). Installed by Sol Snyderman in Libertyville, IL ( Perfect Power). Sol sets up many Porsche track cars and he knows what he is doing. I have had no issues with my suspension. Car handles very nicely. I'm convinced that proper set up is key. Go to a shop that really knows what they're doing. It will make a big difference.

Bucking -

One of the main reasons that I am leaning toward this setup is that the RUF auto centre is located less than a mile from my office. They can not only do all of the modifications that I am contemplating, but they can service the car as well.

Can the Ruf suspension lower the car to GT2 height w/out the negatives of the regular PSS9?

The thing that surprised me on the RUF turbo R was that the ride appeared to be smoother than my ROW turbo. The best thing is that you'll be having it installed in the RUF center, they know what settings work and what doesn't.
