Triptronic Question...

So, I'm just curious. Is it normal for the Tip to clunk when I floor the car and it downshifts under a load?

It happens either when I downshift myself or I just floor it... It's like the torque load is causing it to bind.

X

Great... I didn't think it was normal... Ya when I floor it, the rpms shoot up and when the car finally all downshifts.... Cluck.. It seems like it's slipping.. But doesn't slip when floored at peak rpm....

You most likely have a bad tranny mount.

Let's hope that's all it is... I'm about to dump some cash to make it fast, but if the trans is acting up... I'm just going to go trade it in on a 997tt or GTR...

If the revs shoot up, and the shift is delayed or sloppy, then I cannot see how the tranny mount is causing that. You may have a bad tranny mount causing the clunk, but the shifting issue is something else.

Well it's confirmed... One of the mount is bad... The mechanic had the the car this morning to install the 100 cell cats and just took a quick look at it... Guess I'll need to get it fixed before our Track day on Friday..

I doubt it, once he replaces the mount, he should be fine.. Ive been through the exact situation.

^^ I'll defer to those with Tip experience, but I fail to understand how a mount can affect the internal driveline coupling (ie revs shooting up and delayed shift).... from a technical perspective I'd like to hear how that works.

Although maybe the answer is it really isn't slipping just clunking...

OP, hope you sort it out, report back

I might be that I'm paying more attention to the upshifts, while waiting for the clunking... Ha...

I was told to upgrade to a 997 transmount because they're stronger.. Anyone else heard this?
