PSS9 Refurbishment?
PSS9 Refurbishment?
I'd like to have some advice on PSS9's. I use the car on the street, and also for several drivers ed events per year. I've been instructing for a number of years, and I guess you could say that I can drive the car near its limits on the track.
The car came with PSS9's when I bought it in 2006. I have found them to be ok, but they seem to be getting soft. One possible route is to have them refurbished by Bilstein. Anybody have any experience with this? The springs have the following numbers on them: E4 FD1 Y623 AD0. Anyone know what that spring rate is? It seems like I should also change to stiffer springs.
I know that there are a number of other possibilities if I want to buy entirely new springs and shocks. That option is likely to be much more expensive, so for the moment I'd like to see what I can learn about the Bilstein refurbishment.
Thanks!
Jon

I re-valved a set of PSS-9's for my 993TT and put my own spring rates on. They told me what was on there (bilstein springs) and we switched to linear rate and went up a bit. Then valved to match. That worked out well and the guys helped me figure out the valving.
A few years later they re-built my RUF PSS-9's for the 996TT and it was great as well. I got the original spring rates from them. Got tossed around a bit on the phone but got it. Then you can up the rates and have the shocks valved accordingly. If you go non-progressive and up 25% or so on the spring rates you may like it. They are very knowledgeable when it comes to Porsche set-up.
