Dealer Response to 2nd Gear Pop Out
@ Justin
I am pretty happy about it myself. Took it out for a nice little drive. Really missed it. Now if the snow and sleet would take a break I could get some more seat time!

I just got approval for a new transmission for my second gear pop-out, despite some over-revs. As my clutch is slipping due to flash I will get a new one installed at the same time. I'd like to hold 650-700 crank just in case I decide to do more than just flash/exhaust and am currently leaning to:

Sachs Stage II with replaced dual mass flywheel.
Interestingly, my car had an aftermarket short shifter kit that the dealer found was installed incorrectly (this was not told to me when i bought it CPO). They fixced it at no charge, but still had the pop-out, so they moved towards the new transmission as mentioned. However, they are recommending replacing this aftermarket SSK with the OEM SSK ($1300) as even after their tech tuned it as much as possible they said it wasn't 100% right. Suggestions? Stick with this aftermarket? Pay a bunch for OEM SSK? Or replace with a stock shifter for only $279. I've never driven a manual without the short shifter so not sure if it makes a huge difference.
So:
1: Will the Sachs Stage 2 handle as close to stock as possible with capacity up to 700 hp as website claims?
2. What should I do with the shifter?

Finally done! The dealer put in a new transmission, Sachs Stage 2, billet diverter valves, Bosch spark plugs, and the OEM short shifter. Total labor was $600 for all of it!
Runs great. I even think this clutch feels better than stock; easier to get off the line. Shifter is much smoother than the aftermarket unit. And it holds the EPL flash with no problems.
So glad you got a new trans vice getting it rebuilt like mine. Not bad, but I would have preferred a new unit. I put a new clutch, upgraded to the 997 trans mount and short shift kit. Very easy to drive now. Now if all this pesky snow would just go away so I could enjoy it.
NOT SO FAST!! Trans shift quality has gone down hill since I got it back...to the point that I couldn't even get it into a gear. Horrible. Called Porsche Care and logged a case. Had the car shipped to the dealer via Porsche Roadside. Asked for a new trans. PCNA sent their district tech rep to take a look. Apparently it was an easy decision...new trans has been ordered from Germany. Thank God!! Finally resolve this issue and enjoy the car. Can't wait for spring to arrive in New England!
apparently ( the shim adjustments ) are not SOP when it comes to having these flawed design issues corrected, and yet porsche makes a bunch of different shims expressly for this purpose ( huh, wha?! ). too many of us have had to deal with them without our having "caused" the problems through misshifting/ crunching synchro's etc. for them not to mention shimming to change the placement in the gear stack so that the dogrings(?) on the 2nd gear synchros better engage 2nd gear. ( at least thats what i THINK i've learned! ) as to the "type 2 overrevs", which is a red herring that pcna *might* have tried on me as they have countless others, that had me going mental for more than a minute when i first had them diagnose and repair the trans, but once you authorize teardown and realize that's "type 2" rev cr*p is as much as anything a device designed to dissuade anyone from having this fixed on their dime, one usually prevails because they KNOW the designs flawed!. i have, as you have, and the trans has never felt better. but only as they really worked it the second time around!
now if only i had that oem ssk. the stock oem shifter from 1st to 2nd reminds me of shifting an old vw bus! well, sorta.
When I first started reading your thread, I was thinking to myself watch PCNA will have to give him a new trans in the end lol, and lo and behold! Congrats on getting everything worked out!
