Increasing redline when getting mapped
Increasing redline when getting mapped
Hi guys, I'm thinking of increasing my rev limit to 7K or 7.1Krpm when i go to have my car mapped. Is this safe to do so or do you have to have the valvetrain modified to do this?? Also, is the maximum horsepower the stock internals can take 600hp?? Thanks.
You will get a lot more info with a search. But you can raise the limiter to 7K with confidence. Some have even gone higher. I also think that feeling that internals can only take 600whp has been shown to be too conservative. I believe with good tuning and fuel, 700whp can certainly be safe. Some are running about 900 whp on stock internals. That may be pushing it though.

I would not take mine above 7200 but probably still safe to go 7400. However, I would not bother to raise it above 7K unless I knew that my turbos/supporting mods would actually give a benefit above 7K. Certainly any stock turbo or even a GT28 will be out of optimal efficiency range at those speeds. Unless you have 20g or better yet GT30s I doubt you will benefit much from running the engine that fast. Discuss it carefully with a tuner before you leap...
My tuner told me that if you take the rev limiter to 7000, it is not a good idea to bump on it all the time. Which turbos do you have on your car? If K16's, then there is not much in the higher rpm's anyway. Better to leave it at the stock rev limiter for safety sake. Just my .02
Note if you take the rev limiter above stock, you go to the rev limiter, and you go to sell the car you will have a LOT of type 1 and possibly type 2 overrevs. This will turn some buyers away...
Just a thought.

I have a raised limiter (EPL flash), but I don't use it....at least with k16's there's no need to go past 6500...IMO

Currently I have stock K16s but I will be having them hybrid spec rebuilt. Over here in the UK we dont have hybrid kits like AMS etc.. We just tell turbo rebuilders what spec we want or how much power we want to run the car to and they will tell us what spec to go for. I am going to be going for a safe 500-520whp. And from what I have been told, the exhaust side of a K16 will happily flow 300hp so 300+300= 600hp which is roughly my aim but I was told the inlet is the restrictive side, so they will machine it out and give me a new billet compressor wheel that will take upto 330hp so 330+330 = 660hp, and 1bar actuators so they hold the boost to the redline or closer to it. SO I thought when i get the exhaust system and have it mapped I would like to go to 7Krpm or higher, but from the info given I think 7Krpm will be sufficient for my needs.
make sure you get rid of the stock inlet tubes while your doing these mods it will make a pretty big difference on the top end.
we set it 7200 to 7400... but can make it whatever the client likes..

It's fine to raise the limiter, just be aware that the stock turbos fall off significantly above ~6000rpm... it's nice for getting off the line quickly in 1st, but once you're in 2nd or higher, there's no sense in revving the car that high. Our redline on most of our files is 7050rpm, but we can set it to whatever the client wishes.
EDIT: I think i just answered my own question! http://uspmotorsports.com/product_in...roducts_id=635

I would personally not go above 7,000. After reading about Divex' car. I would have sworn he had RPM related issues? Don't quote me. I'm just going off forum memory.
I did have mine set at 7350 for a very brief time. The car is definitely a lot more usable in 1st gear.
One issue with these cars is that the engine outruns the tach. You will hit the stock limiter when the tach shows 6,000 RPM in 1st. It takes a mental adjustment so that you won't hit the limiter on a fast takeoff.

on a similar subject guys...how the hell do u launch these damn cars!! I've tried everything!!! I cant get the damn thing off the line, it either dies like u havent given it enuf revs or it diff bounces like a b1tch when u give it too many revs!! Im confused!! can sum1 elaborate on the technique!! thakns!
