70mm ID spring source?
70mm ID spring source?
Hello!
I am looking to update my PSS9's. I'm going to respring them, then have them revalved/rebuilt by Bilstein. The springs are an odd size, though, 70mm ID. Anybody know of a source for springs? I'm looking for rears at 200mm length and 675 lb/in, and fronts at 170-180 mm length and 450 lb/in.
I found some at Tein, but am not familiar with them. Any vendors carry them?
Thanks,
Jon

Before I switched to Motons 2 years ago, I called Bilstein to upgrade my PSS9's and found them to be no help trying to find appropriate springs. I called around and hit a dead end. That's when I bought the Motons. Maybe I didn't search hard and long enough. Good luck.
Jon,would TEIN sell you only the springs ? that'll be interesting to know.Thanks.

To OP, don't know you found the answer yet but there are 2 sources of 70mm springs that I know of: Swift Springs and Hypercoil. Unfortunately not all lengths are available so your tuner might have to use some creativity. For example my tuner could fit 200mm (approx. 8 inches) long spring in my front Bilstein PSS10 in my 997 Turbo by getting rid of the helper spring. (Helper spring in Bilstein is completely compressed at rest and doesn't contribute to spring rate, so you won't change overall rate by getting rid of it.) BTW, complicated installation so obviously I would let only the most competent and experienced installer touch my car for this.

I did get what I needed from Swift. I went with 7" springs up front and was able to retain the helper spring. The helper is useful to keep the spring on the perch when you lift the car.
Jon
Yes without helper there is very rarely noise, as when one goes airborne and then lands. Not too frequent of an occurrence though.

Are you at 450/650 then? How is it? Not too stiff for street? I am at 560/560 (1:1 ratio front to back) and am thinking about experimenting 450/560 since I drive this car daily.
I wouldn't think that equal spring rates would handle very well on this car, given the 38/62 percent weight distribution.
Turns out that I mis-spoke above. I bought 7" springs for the front, but when they were installed, we couldn't get the ride height down where I wanted it. So I ordered 6" springs and that is what is in the car now.
Swift wouldn't take the springs back because they had been installed, even though the car was never actually even driven with them in there. So I have a set of 7" 450 pound springs (Z70-178-080) that I'll make you a good deal on if you want them. Photo below. The part number code means 70 mm ID, 178 mm long, 80 kg/mm. PM me if you're interested.
