Terrible time at the Track

Finally broke my new clutch in so decided to take my car back to the strip to see what it could do. I really just wanted to hit stock ET and Mph...but ended up with much worse. Clutch had no issue but every time I went WOT on 1st or 2nd gear car would just wheel hop and I would shut it down.

Out of 7 runs I only finished 1 with @ 110mph. All the other times I shut it down due to severe wheel hop. So frustrating...

My tire got stuck with all kinds of crap from the track which made wheel hop even worse as the night went on.

Which upgrades will reduce this problem the most? mounts, wheels, suspension...Can't believe I am having this problem on stock power.

Which coil over is best for reducing this problem? Do you guys feather the throttle when you feel wheel hop coming on or just keep on WOT until it eventually hooks up? Maybe I am driving this car wrong...

LSX_This is infamous around these parts
tires will help the most, especially at the drag strip. get some drag radials (MT or M&H). BTW, Street tires chew up the track, as you can see with all of the gunk stuck to your tires.

Yup. All that crap on your tires is supposed to stay on the track. I run Nitto's at 16-18psi. Keep the revs around 3500-4000rpm and slide the clutch out smoothly and quickly while applying generous throttle. Don't dump the clutch at any RPM. Wheel hop is what breaks stuff...like axles...

Thanks for the info...I'll try new tires and mounts before moving to the more $$ coilovers.

Do you guys gradually press the throttle on 1st and 2nd? My wheel hop actually wasn't on the launch since I was not launching that hard...1-3k rpm. The wheel hop came on once I stomped on the gas and hit 5500k rpm. Maybe these pirellis just suck. Other AWD cars don't seem to have this problem...(GTR/Audi)

Work that clutch a bit till you get going and feel the car. Tire pressures (low).

How about RWD conversion...does that help reduce wheel hop? I have been searching "wheel hop + porsche" seems like everyone has this problem.

I think I going to go for below:

1. Check mounts
2. Replace all 4 tires
3. Go RWD?

Guys on a similar note can some1 explain to me how the 4WD system in a 996TT works. Is it normal to feel a big jolt when the power is sent to the front wheels? Its been really cold here in the UK over the last few nites and as I've only had the car a short while I've been flooring the pedal in first gear after a gentle pull away just to learn the reactions of the car. the back twitches (LSD doing its work) then it jolts and the front starts hopping. Is this the way its meant to happen?

When accelerating hard in our cars they tend to squat in the rear. As a result the front lifts a little making it easier for the front tires to lose traction. Apperently the AWD in our cars is not as beneficial to straight line acceleration as one would think. It is more beneficial in a road course environment.
