Thank everyone for your very helpful posts.
Based on the reviews sounds like the 997 SSK is the way to go.
I was mainly concerned about compatibility but it seems as though everyone is happy with theirs which sounds great.

Arrow Imho...

...you should install the billet link while you are in there.

The combination of SSK and link are nothing short of awesome.

I have the Schnell**... others have the EVO etc... Billet links rock !

Check out the B&M shifter installation instructions (pdf. file attached below)...

Check post about marking cables front & rear before removal of old shifter and link.

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996/227663-997ssk-ssla-billet-link-installation.html

Then check out the billet link installation DIY below (nicely illustrated)...

Hope this helps...

**Schnell link on sale at Vertex right now... inexpensive !

Arrow FYI, the...

...997SSK is made by B&M for Porsche...

997SSK has a similar feel, & slightly longer throw, without metal bushings fore and aft.

IMHO, you should do the billet link as well when you R&R the B&M to SSK.

I will have the B&M up for sale if anyone is interested in giving it a try.

excuse my ignorance but what exactly are the benefits to the billet link change?

It helps your wallet get lighter... Unless you are racing or putting a lot of stress on your shifter...

I have the 997SSK. It is the only SS I put in from stock, so I can't say if it is better than any others. However, it does feel a little heavy, but very crisp and precise. I would recommend trying others and seeing which one you like best.

Ok let me clear something up

The billet shift link is used to replace the plastic shift link that are prone to breaking. They connect the shift cables to the bottom of the shifter. Kind of ball and socket set up

I just had mine break and it left me stranded at the roadside.

Now if you want a cheap fix, evoms sells a billet shift link. That can be used with the stock shifter cables.

The better alternative but pricey is to have cup car shifter cables installed. They are thicker and stronger than stock cables and are 100% metal construction no plastic parts that can break.

Also note that the gt3 shift cables don’t have any rubber on them for sound dampening so they might be a little louder than stock

I plan to put gt3 shift cables paired with a 997 GT3 shifter. IMO the 997ssk is just too short.

The gt3 shifter has reinforced shift bushings and is slightly shorter than the regular 997 version. I sat in a gt3 recently and the shifts are perfect. They are a perfect throw and the gears go in perfectly. Unlike the ssk which sometimes wont engage 3rd easily.

Now I’m no expert, I’m just sharing my observations.

Here is a great link to show you the cup car cable comparison.

Arrow Despite what our fellow 6speed member says...

...the billet link replaces a poorly made plastic piece that is more prone to failure. Whan it fails it leaves you stranded as you will be unable to shift.

The billet piece has a robust nylon socket to couple with the end of the shifter instead of the totally inferior and inherently weak stock plastic cup.

Wallet only "affected" to the tune of $33 to $85 depending on link choice.

To me its a no-brainer. I have the link and forward shifting peace of mind.

2 cents... deposited.

Of all my mods my 997ssk is one of my favorite ones. I got mine a few years ago and simply love it. I had a stock 996 shifter (horrible) so there wasn't anywhere to go but up from there.
