Mobil 1 5w50 at Grease Monkey for $5.99/quart

For those of you looking for Mobil 1 5w50, I just bought two cases at my local Grease Monkey oil change joint. They are a Mobil 1 dealer and the manager said he stocks it for the Porsche guys as it's apparently becoming more popular. He gets it from the local Oil distributor..

Some have found that a heavy oil helps keep the rattle of the engine down. Lots of threads here if you want to search.

Interesting, but I'd still stay more towards factory recommendations. If the rattle doesn't result in damage, then I'm going to go with what Porsche says.

I don't use oil to change the sound of my motor... but the 5W50 gives you about 20% higher viscosity 17.3 cps versus 14.3 at 100C...and 106 versus 80 at 40C... but is will shear down faster. I suspect by have not tested it at 2000 miles, but it probably acts like basically a fresh fill of 0w40 from 2000-8000 miles after a change. (ie a tad thicker than 0W40, then is shears down)
