BBS centre cap blowout !

Put some lovely new BBS CH-Rs on my car about a month back.. We just had an unofficial race event on the weekend and the funniest thing happened... Lots full throttle followed by manic breaking etc then stopped for 5 minutes.. Slowly drove off and heard a small explosion from the front of the car.. The left front centre cap on the front rim had blown off and flew about 30 ft.. Stopped to collect it, and a few minutes later the right front did exactly the same thing.. Can only assume that excessive heat in the brakes caused pressure to build behind the cap.. Funny but very bizarre... Anyone else had the same thing ?

you probably had some moisture (condensation) inside the caps and the heat made steam...boom

Either that or the heat in the wheels made them expand which forced the center cap out. My wheels heat up at the track and they are the stock BBS's. Never had a center cap blow out though.

Zero damage to the wheels and both caps survived unscathed until I watched someone run over the second one... Planning to drill two small holes in each cap so if steam does build up behind them we can just make a cup of tea... The sound they made blowing off sounded like a gun shot... It was unbelievable and quite funny

I am very interested in hearing how this tea turns out. Good luck.

lol least you can smile about the whole thing, but i still think i would have that sinking feeling watching the cap get run over after finding the other one in good shape.
You can always make it into a necklace

Wow. drill a small hole in the cap to vent the pressure. All the center caps I have seen either have small holes or are a little loose fitting. All stock center caps are drilled.
