What turbo setup is the best on a 996turbo

If you want maximum performance out of a 996 turbo without changing the internals what setup should you go with? It should also be reliable. It will never be used on a track only late night higwayraces and sunday drives.

It does not matter the use. I feel it's worse to leave a car to sit as the gas goes bad then the rods get bent or worse.. To give you a answer first your type of gas being used is needed.

The car will be used alot on the street, it will not sit. But a car that is used alot on track will have to withstand alot more beating and can not push the same boost p as a car only used on street.

Pumpgas most of the time but maybe an option to use racegas if wanted?

The OP's question is certainly one of mine as well.

Where's the "bang for the buck" that allows follow-on upgrades, at each level.

Air box mods - when are these required to make more power?

Exhaust upgrades - mufflers alone or when are new headers needed?

Intake mods - when do you need to upgrade the tubo intake tubes?

Bottom line, what should I upgrade PRIOR to adding a tune in order to safely support increased performance?

It's not a simple answer. There are a ton of tuners and then there are some that are more cutting edge. I hate when people say this but you both need to exhaust the SEARCH function on this forum and click on the vendor links to the right.. You need to put in research because your asking a question that is as broad as asking what your favorite color is....

Good luck.. And if it was me, find someone local.

My thoughts exactly. Once you narrow down your questions, come back and ask.

only muffler and flash.... next stage: muffler, hybrid turbo/diverter valve 5bar FPR, clutch, and flash ? so you can go on.... intercooler, intake pipes, y pipe, header......for my understanding with small hybrid turbo over 1,4 bar you need internals....if you use bigger turbos your rods are not so in danger but you need more external mods...(big turbos are smooth to the rods if you dont over boost smile)

I'd say exhaust and tune...dunno that airbox would help as much as say intake tubes for the turbos, or DVs etc.... There are a ton of options on these cars...you can litterally spends months just learning before you decide on how to proceed!

Tune and exhaust (k16) is already on the car in question I´ve done alot of searching already but would like to now what turbo setup you would go for personaly, and the pros and cons on that particular setup. Disregard the money issue at the moment.

What do you think of this setup from Switzer? is 600whp pushing the stock internals? still using k16 turbos = very fast spool up? Switzer also has a p800 kit, that pushes 700whp on pump, that seems a bit high for stock motor if you ask me.

P700 BILLET K16 PKG
600 WHP PUMP GAS PKG

This is a flexible and reliable high-hp tuning solution that does away with a conventional 5-bar fuel pressure regulator, replacing it with a high-flow injection system and electronic boost controls that allow more precise and efficient tuning than what is possible with the old-style regulators.

SWITZER TURBO-BACK EXHAUST
SWITZER ECU SOFTWARE
BMC AIR FILTER
IRIDIUM PERFORMANCE PLUGS
SWITZER HIGH-FLOW FUEL INJECTOR SYSTEM
SWITZER SILICONE HOSE KIT
STANDARD ISSUE DIVERTER VALVES
SWITZER-MODIFIED K16 BILLET-WHEEL TURBOS
HD WASTEGATE ACTUATORS
ELECTRONIC BOOST CONTROLLER

if you go with a kit from the vendors in this forum, i am shure they know what stock internals can hold.

a very important point is that special flash can prevent you from bent rods.....in critical zone area boost and timing must have attention (small limited boost around 4000)speak with your tuner

You must know what you like.....quick acceleration and jump start and not extended higway high speed trips....go with k16 hybrid/ if you like to go high speed trips go with k24 hybrids......if you like to have more...go with special turbos in this forum ..if you like to go with the "big dogs" you need more...not only rods...reinforced engineblock.....and a lot of money

what i read in your post...go with k24/18g and extended mods if you like..

I personally couldnt decide and it took me good 7 months to figure out my goals. I went from 18g to 20g to 3076 because at the end I knew my 1st goal was 200 at the TX mile. After i do that I'll shrink my turbos probably to the A28's but we will see one thing at a time.

Are you still on stock internals with that setup?

WinniGT2: thanks for your post!
