Cab owner input please.
Sorry for all the questions, but I am all over the place with my next purchase. I don't know if I want a 996tt or 997tt and I am not sure if I want a cab or hardtop. I live outside of Philadelphia, Pa and would only use the cab for a couple of months per year most. Question is to those of you that have the cabs do you ever wish you had a hardtop instead and if so under what circumstances. How is your cab with road rouse, rain. Thanks guys I hope to be able to contribute firsthand very soon.

I drove my car year round in CA. The top is up primarily when I need to have a conference call while driving. If you ever get a cab, the 911 is great. Get a 997 if prices work out. A 2005 or 2006 S should be fairly reasonable by now.
I live in Iowa and wouldn't own anything except a cab. I drive mine year around... rain, sleet, snow, you name it. It's very tight and pretty quiet and the top is very well made.
You won't ever see me owning a hardtop.
Now, if I was willing to afford a 997TT, I'd upgrade, but for now I'm quite happy with my 996TT.

Amost bought a coupe becase the car was so awesome. (see mcjoe691 or tonynj) Found the cab in the color combo I wanted and haven't looked back. I live in Michigan so similiar climate to yours, I drive it from March through Nov. Road noise and rain are non issues. I'm a cab guy and upgraded from a 993 c2 cab to the 996t cab. If you want the cab definetly get the cab.

I love my turbo cab. For me, the open air fun completely trumps the slight performance edge of the coupe. Road noise with the top up is low. Visibility is slightly reduced compared to the coupe. Keep in mind that you can always add the hardtop in the winter. It doesn't look quite as good, but it provides a coupe-like look for the colder months. I haven't done that because I'm not crazy about leaving the soft top in the stowed position for months at a time.
The turbo cab is as close to a no-compromise car as you can get. There are very few AWD convertibles, and even fewer 4 seater AWD convertibles. Mine is 600+hp and stupid fast, with the ability to drop the top on nicer days. My wife and daughter can easily ride with me (at the same time). I think that you can score the 2004 cabs for around $60-70k, maybe better.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a car to track, then go with the coupe.

Funny, in Fla our tops are up during the summer, winter can't beat the open air and love to hear the gurrgling of the EP exhaust, the car does get dirty inside from just the road dust but I can't imagine much more than driving with windows down and sunroof open. I do notice at stop lights people are more likely to strike up a conversation. One major tip if you decide to buy a cab, if you like medium/longer hair wear a cap or you will look like Albert Einstein when you get out of your car!!! I don't regret the cab one bit and I track mine more than recreational use.
