California members: Passing emissions with aftermarket exhaust?

I realize no aftermarket exhaust will be CARB certified. My concern is if it will be clean enough to pass... meaning not producing more pollutants than allowed.

I just purchased an Agency Power exhaust with 200 Cell cats. Any experience out there with this exhaust in California?

Thanks,
Bryan

you should be fine with 200 cell cats. my speedtech exhaust with 200 cell cats past without problems in ca. we have an advantage with the all wheel drive, because they can put the car on the rollers.

Guys, thanks for the help. I plan on adding the new exhaust this weekend. Should I replace the gaskets for the exhaust where it meets the turbo on my car.... It has only 9000 miles.

Thanks,
Bryan

Passed with flying colors with my Milltek 100 and it has >15k on it. You can run the car for 30mins ahead of time to heat up the cats... Hear this helps things out.

Good luck!

I hear you can reuse the gaskets off your stock exhaust, and that these stupid thin metal rings are really expensive. Some one correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

Bumping an old thread here...

1. 100 octane will probably throw the sniffer test? Probably need to use that up...
2. I have 200 cel cats -- but not OEM exhaust on car. Will they auto fail me in CA?

Thanks!
Henry

California does not use a sniff test anymore. They read out your ECU. California has also had a visual inspection test also. Most tunes will not trip the ECU test. As far as the visual inspection, you just have to find the right smog inspection station.

As long as its cat back, there should be no issue.

If you go to a random "non friendly" smog testing station they can fail you on visual, regardless of the actual emissions test or new ECU scan test.

Best bet is to go to a known 'friendly' smog check where they will overlook any shiny exhausts etc.

Interesting, so I guess I just try to get lucky and hope he doesn't get too far under car. It's not very loud at idle.

Maybe borrow a stock 996TT exhaust and go back if I have to. What a hassle for a car that would pass the freakin' sniffer no problem, hah.

It's a pain in the a** to get smogged once you get flagged with not passing for whatever reason.. I just went through all of this, and I have some info in my car thread.. If I were you, I would ask some of your car buddies for a mod friendly smog station before rolling the dice..
