Does anyone have a dyno of a K24/18G WITHOUT an Exhaust?
Does anyone have a dyno of a K24/18G WITHOUT an Exhaust?
I really don't want to change my exhaust, have already flashed my K24s, and am thinking about going to the 18g setup for more power. I know that the stock exhaust choked out some power in the high rpm range when I originally did the flash. I'm curious how the 18g dyno would look while maintaining the same exhaust restriction. I have a Tip, and I don't want to deal with drone, so I'm told that the Europipe Quiet is really the only option if I want to upgrade the exhaust. I want to see how much power I'm leaving on the table before I spend $5G AND make my car louder than it already is. (The Euro is getting beaten up, though, so at least the exhaust is cheaper than it was last year.
) To be honest, it's more about the noise than the money, though. Thanks.

Hi,No......BUT.......I was chipped[GIAC] for my first mod with the k24's with a stock exhaust it did not spool like I thought it should have.I was in the same boat as you with sound....I picked the Cargraphics Medium sound/TUV approved. It woke up the car /response noticably....Happy with power increase, let the map work, and the sound was just enough to still make it no bother.....Made 503 H.P. on a 2 wheel dyno jet with that combo.....Maybe I might sell this system to get a more free flow/louder one because of my K24/18 set-up now??????Hope this helped.......

There is too much power for the box to handle. They have to be upgraded, and the TCU has to be upgraded as you go over the boundarys of the tq limits.
They gbox will start to slip in 3rd gear, then you will need a rebuild.

mine didn't hold up to k16/16g's. Try the Miltek Sport exhaust, NO drone at all on the tip.

the alpha 28s will do much better than the 24/18s on a tiptronic. I know because I had the 24/18s on my car before as well. Like yourself, my wife liked the stock exhaust more than my speedtech x-flow. My car was a tiptronic. It started to slip when I installed the aquamist meth kit.

Thanks for the help, guys.

No actual dyno's, but based on my experience, with my car, I would think you could easily get 500whp with 18g's and stock exhaust. I think you might only be able to run 1.0-1.2 bar though. Too much restriction. Counter productive at that point. My FVD exhaust was a 20whp improvement. My car made 525 with 18g's and exhaust alone, so I figure with stock exhaust, that day, 505ish?
I dont think there is a single car with 18g turbos and stock exhaust here...Buy REMUS or Speedtech crossflow exhaust and you will love the drone free sound...on the other hand by leaving your stock exhaust you dont let your turbos operate proper resulting in increased EGT from increased backpressure...that could cause you troubles at high speed runs...Just get the right exhaust for you, dont run the turbos with stock exhaust...

My tranny was fine before it started to slip. 25k miles on it or so at stock boost. It really had troubles at 550whp.
Thanks, man. Better than 2 cents. (At least today.) Ha.
I don't suppose you were around the 500whp level too long to check the durability, then. I KNOW that I don't want to start messing with the tranny. This argument of going with or without an exhaust seems moot if I'd need to rebuild the tranny, on a car with 10K miles, anyway.

I would feel safe at 500whp on the stock tip. I ran around with a tune and exhaust for about 3 months. But what would that be, 430whp? Low boost for me after my 16/16's was about 525whp and the tranny was just fine with zero noticeable slip.
What kind of boost were you pushing, producing how much horsepower, before the tranny went boom? My flashed K24s are putting out around 400whp without an exhaust. Couldn't the K24/18g be custom tuned to around 500whp, by keeping the boost down, and keep things safe? I'd think the power curve could be flattened out a bit, as well, as your peak wouldn't be as high, so there's less of a fall-off.
