cabrio tt owners

guys that has cabrio tt, what is the pros and cons about it? I currently have a coupe and thinking about switching to a cabrio. Is the drone very bad with aftermarket exhaust? Any things i need to watch out for.

The only cons for me are track days, cabs are not the best for those. But for summer time cruising I can imagine driving anything other than my turbo cab. Nothing beats a spirited drive with the top down and wind in your hair. IMHO of course.

Long term - potentially added maintenance. It is also really easy for thieves. Leaks and things like that can happen. My experience is from owning a 964 C4 cab for the past 12 years.

The upside - there is nothing like open air driving. It is a completely different experience. I love my Cab.

When the top is down, drone is non-existent!

Since cabs are like 200+ lbs heavier, the coupes are a little faster stock to stock (or with the exact same mods, but who would have the exact same mods). You live in the Bay Area, get the cab... can't beat the open top feelings with a fast car.

Cabs are awesome. Nothing like feeling 1.1bar with the top down. It is the closest thing to a bike that a car can get in my opinion. Yes, exhaust choice is very limited due to drone. I still have the stock one. I would love to get a Europipe quiet, but it is just simply alot for me to dish out on an exhaust. 996 cabs are pretty good with maintenance and overall reliability. If theives want in, they will get in coupe or cab.

Unless you're worried about a second or so, cabs are the only way to go. There is a solid feel to a hardtop due to the obvious, but as long as you keep it in a garage, and someone said the added maintenance of it, which is true, someday, there is nothing like going 0-130 in under 12 seconds with the top down!!!!!! someday i will buy a hardtop 930 and make it a track car however..... the last post said something about drone, i just installed a BBI stage 2 yesterday, no drone at low rpms, sounds like a ferrari at 0-4000 rpms, not loud at all, and sounds like it should at full speed with the top down and the radio on... best pipe on the market IMO...

tt cabs are a little hard to find. the chasis rigidity / track-ability / rattle are probably your only downside. if you do street and occasional DE only, there is no problem. rattles take a while to sort out but it can be done. 997 cabs are much better with that.

the upside is that you have a million feet of headroom and air around you with a push of a button. also, cabs are great for hauling long items if you ever need to.

contrary to popular believe, cabs sound better with exhaust mods. you hear it better.

also, cabs will make the rear look wider. don't know why but it's a visual trick.

go for a test drive if you can find one. 996 and 997 cab mechanisms are really reliable.

Bringing the cabs to a HPDE, what are the downfalls to that? DO they require rollover protection? I've read something about the broomstick test with boxsters, is that the same with the TT? I'd love to get a cab, but i'd like to occasionally track my TT so im worried that it wouldn't work and would be more hassle than good?

I track my cab all the time, never a problem. They allow the built in pop up roll over protection, some of the HP courses require roll bars deployed prior to the event

pro's; open air driving, conversations with everybody else at traffic light, EP ST2 Qt sounds awesome at all ranges of rpm, suntan, no blind spots -see some much more around you ( ideal for the mountains or redwoods) water no issues.
con's; inside gets dirty from open air blowing around, hair blowing for that Einstein look when you arrive to your destination, minor maintenance with top - fliud, latches

Once you go Cab, you don't go back. The Europipe Stage 2Q sounds amazing at WOT. The only downside is I wake up the whole house and a few neighbors when I leave for work every morning at 6:15 am.

Love my 04 TT Cab. Agency Power exhaust, almost no drone (maybe a little between 1800 and 2100 rpms if I were being picky) and sounds great. I just sold my 930 and cannot get enough of this cab.

Good luck,
Bryan
