Thanks Scottslaw for the input.

It's too bad that alot of people bashed a car that belonged to a fellow 6speed member. The question I asked in the begining was, "do you know this car?" They obviously did not, the good news is, I might be getting a good deal because others were scared off. We will find out tomorrow if it is any good.

Fixed.

Sorry for posting opinions, you are correct that all you asked for is history on that car....

if I were in your position, I would not trust anyone's advice that you do not personally know especially since you are putting your own hard earned $.

To be frank, I WILL NOT vouch for anything that is not in my possession. Who knows what has been done, what has not been done, how many owners have passed, what has transpired since, etc, etc.

Thus, do your own homework. Do your own research.

Simple rules to live by, if the risk < reward, then do it. If the risk > reward then don't do it. Value is in the eye of the beholder.

sc trojan's car is in surprisingly good condition. I spent 6 hours on it's inspection. There are a couple of problems, the biggest is that the hood and the front bumper have been repainted. It had a couple of boost leaks that I fixed after my test. Makes just.8 bar. Both rockers have cracks in them. Trans has been out and is now dry no leaks shifts quite well. I data logged 20 miles of driving and a/f ratios were all in range. Durametric shows no over rev. Aqua mist install was done by a monkey, I will fix that and leave it on the car in case I upgrade the turbos and exhaust, which are both stock.

I was able to renegotiate with the seller and purchased the car for an acceptable amount for an '03 996TT.

I do wish Gary would call me, I just would like to fill in a couple of blanks. I'm not looking for anyone to vouch for the car. I just think that history is good to know, especially in our relatively small community.

Thing is, it isn't my car. Please understand that. I sold the car, it went through more than a FEW owners before it finally got to you. I do not know what the new owners did to the car, what they didn't fix, etc. etc.

Did you ever ask yourself if I was such a good member here on the boards, why I didn't try to sell it through this board first if it was in such great shape? There is always a reason for something.

Like any old car, there are issues. Every old car has them. If you do a search, you can see the various issues I had, the various upgrades I put on the car, the various upgrades the previous owners put on the car. Note, I was not the 1st owner. With the various mods, there are always risks/consequences. Any tuner that tells you there are no risks, walk away.

I just decided my time and $ was worth more than keeping the car and spending more $. As the old saying goes- "one mans junk is another mans treasure". eBay makes its $$$ on people's junk. Sounds like you have the skill, knowledge, time and passion to work on a car that many decided was too much for them.

I will call you later today when I get free.

Time to update

sc_trojan was kind enough to call me as I was driving the car back to TX from Lake of the Ozarks. He took the time to explain the history of the car to me. The good news is the car traveled less than 170 miles from when he sold it to when I bought it. The history completely checked out. I traveled the approx 900 miles home with 0 issues.

Now, about a month later, and another 900 miles. I have spent around $1200 on the car, oil change, reloaded stock software, ROW springs, mounted and balanced new tires and wheels, and an alignment. It passes TX emissions, and runs great.

I'm pleased to have purchased such a nice car for so little $. Thanks to everyone for their input.

Here is a picture taken with my iphone today.
