Does anyone know this 2003 996TT

I have put a deposit on this car, sale subject to a sucessful PPI. Does anyone know this car. It has spent most of its life in Southern California.

Thanks for any information.

The posting has been deleted- but if I recall correctly the front seats don't match the rear- meaning he may have had different seats in there at one point.

Check for signs of abuse or body work

I posted a thread on this car a few weeks ago. I don't know how to post a link to it but if you do a search, you'll find it. Good luck with your purchase!

i would hurry up and get your deposit back. there was some discussion recently about that 996TT (i don't recall if it was here on 6speed or rennlist), and the concensus is clearly a story car. it had meth injection which i believed was removed (you can see the tubing in the engine shot) which indicates it was heavily modified and returned to semi-stock. probably buying a time bomb. besides, just take a look at that air filter - unbelievably filthy!

there's plenty of great 996TT's available. don't waste your time with this one.

you may need to go through with the PPI in order to get your money back, though. it's unfortunate but a small price for a lesson learned. always consult the forums first; the invaluable experience can help avoid a lemon.

I really appreciate the comments. Has anyone seen this car. I appreciate an opinion, but I want to know if anyone has actually driven it, or laid eyes on it, or can verifiy what mods are on the car. I am going right by there this week on my way to Indiana. I will be performing the PPI myself at their facility (I am ASE L1 certified and have owned 19 Porsches since 1971 and have been in the car business 36 years).

I am interested in a modified 996TT with a Tip. I am aware of the different seats in the car. For the price we have agreed on it could be a good deal, if the car is right. If it isn't, I get my deposit back and have spent 4 or so hours I will never get back. It would not be the first time i have traveled to look at a car and came up empty handed.

Thumbs up then. You may be the perfect buyer for such a car. Not being a wiseguy, just that a few things here or there that need fixing- even a rebuild on the tranny- would not be the disaster to you that it would to a civilian.

Those are genuine Tech-Art. The small pedals have some sort of grips molded in and the accelerator is perfectly flat.

I had the same on my old 996

Take a durametric with you and datalog it for a few pulls. Since the tuner is unknown a look at your AFR's and boost will be telling. Make sure the aquamist has a fail safe of some sort installed, even if it is just a buzzer / light.

I now have a fist full of receipts that were faxed to me this afternoon from the previous owners representative, including the first owners service records and window sticker. I will be comparing them to the car on either Wed or Thurs.

I will report what I find, what is on the car, and whats not. I am prepared with:

o most of the service records,
o a Durametric,
o a portable wide band 5 gas analyzer,
o my trusty paint meter,
o ASE L1 certification,
o 40 years of Porsche ownership.

What could possibly go wrong?

I'm pretty sure, EVERYTHING!

Thanks, for everyones input. BTW, the service records look promising, and yes, several things have been removed according to the paper work. TechArt rear spoiler, carbon air box, and exhaust. According to the paper work it was not done on the cheap.

Wish me luck,

If that is true I can vouch for the prior owner...good guy and car enthusiast. I have purchased a few parts from him on the board, and found him to be very professional and fair. Also, he really struck me as the type of guy who considered his mods carefully and did not just rush in and buy the cheapest thing he could find. Good luck!
