Rebuilding 997TT front Calipers - help
Hey all, I bought some used 997TT front 6 piston calipers. I need to replace the seals around the pistons and I cannot find a rebuild kit for these. The Porsche dealer does not list one or replacement parts but does for 996TT calipers. I looked at the Brembo site to see if they had a contact number but could not find a support or parts number to call. I also checked with Vivid and they did not know of a kit. Does anyone know where I can find new piston seals for these rotors? They must be available somewhere.
Thanks!
Thanks!
You have to measure the size of your pistons and after you can order the seals and the dust seals from http://store.zeckhausen.com/catalog/

You cannot say that I am not a good student
Your too far from me to bring you an apple tomorrow morning Monsieur Le Professeur
Yup, in Alpenland. Too bad YOU have all the snow!
looks like a similar predicament to me with 997TT calipers as well on 996TT...John advised me on another thread to measure the pistons and go to Zeckhousen...
Is there anyone local like some brake or auto shop that sells dust boots and seals of do you have to get them special ordered and wait on them? Figure once you have the caliper apart and measurments ... it would just be a matter of the right boots/seals...OR are they not created equal, in wich case perhaps a place like Zeckhousen has the best performing ones specificly for porsche calipers??

Like I said in the other thread, you don't have to entirely disassemble the caliper to make the measurement. And if your dust seals aren't embrittled from overheating, you should be able to press them back into place afterward.

I'm sure Zeckhousen has the same but maybe they are not advertized as such...will need to shop around once the measurements are made...
To identify the kit needed you can also go to "Centris part" http://www.centricparts.com/ They are the distributor of those seals. They don't sell to consumer but the search engine is good for trying to identify the proper kit ( model, caliper kit...)
I just got a price on the 997TT calipers, they seem to only come in red. The fronts are like $797, and the rears are like $535 (I didn't write down the exact numbers should have though)...so figure shipped they'd be in the range of $2700 or so for all, Bob does that sound about right?
Figure If you were to get them dissasembled, rebuilt with all new seals and boots, then have the entire system flushed with new Castrol SRF wonder what the cost would be? I am guessing much less but still haven't gotten a quote from the shop I use on it...I did send them the links jpflip and Jon talked about...excellent info guys. Still looking at this option right now...One dealer that I talked to is going to give me the info for their caliper paint and decal source that they use...

On top of each piston there is a ceramic disc shaped like a thick lifesaver. This is what the dust shield goes around and then presses back into the caliper. Appears that it is a heat buffer between the piston and the pad backing plate. The anti-squeel discs press into each of the three of these on each side. They must be removed in order to put on the new dust seals, or at least mine did because the dust seals were so brittle from overheating that there would have been no way to get the small pieces of rubber out otherwise. Most came out easily, and were stuck a little to the top of each piston. Two were difficult to remove, and a third almost impossible, in fact it was so "stuck" to the top of the piston it cracked. More like shattered while trying to dislodge it. I tried gently first and then progressively firmer, it was not coming off like the others. So now I need to find one, which seems like it might be difficult. Might require buying a whole rebuilt kit just for that one piece. I already have the dust shield all installed and the calipers completed except for that. Does anyone know a source for one. Viperbob - have any used ones sitting around?? They are graduated in size on each side of the caliper. Of the three on each side it is the largest of the three and it is just the ceramic puck that I need.
