Magnetic Drain Plugs

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find magnetic drain plugs for the 996TT. I've seen one post noting the 944 drain plug is magnetic (Part) and fits the case, any ideas for the Oil Tank / Turbo sumps?

Thanks,
Mark

Not sure if this is against the forum rules, I don't work for them, but I just remembered seeing them here. I guess these are ONLY for the turbos. You are half way there

Thanks for that, the oil tank drain plug in the bottom screenshot from that link doesn't look original either, or at least it's new

Note - I called my parts guy about the 944 drain plug, he said it's definately a bigger plug than the one in our cars, may just be longer he didn't have one on hand. He also said it's not made from the same material, it's stronger, and was concerned it could cause damage to the car. Not worth the risk IMHO, thread-sert's are a PITA.

After looking at those further, maybe they are NOT what you are looking for ? They still must be opened with an allen wrench. The magnetic portion is on the inside to collect debris.

collecting metal from the oil is exactly why I want them, I've got good allen sockets The less metal floating around in the oil the better. It also lets me know how badly things are wearing as i'm a touch paranoid about the louder than average IMS rattle my car has.

Oil tank isn't as necessary, but i'd love to find a proper magnetic crank case plug.

that's the entire purpose of a magnetic drain plug.

Good enough, glad I was able to help. Not sure what I was thinking, thought maybe you were looking for a quick drain option as well.

They are really quick with e-mail that's for sure I'll post back when i get them.

@JSBear - Thanks appreciate the lead! Quick drain wize i saw This Won't fit our cars, interesting idea. I'd be worried about it getting knocked open, not worth the risk to save a $0.50 crush ring and 30 seconds torquing the bolt. the case bolt is easy to remove without getting oil on your hands, however i challenge anyone to be able to remove the oil tank plug without getting oily!

Looks like they referenced a Fumoto drain valve. I know a lot of turbo-diesel trucks use them without any problems with inadvertently opening.

I don't mind a little oil on my hands to go with the "blood sacrifice" I make everytime I work on my vehicles.

I looked for a Fumoto for a little while and e-mailed them. They didn't have anything specific for our car and asked the type of thread we needed. I wasn't sure so i stopped there. Of course, when i asked on the forums someone had to post that you can't put that on a Porsche, only on a daily driver

HI,Try Pegasus auto racing supplies......1 800 688 6946 BUT you are going to have to know your thread size for them....You would think a magnetic drain plug would be standard issue or more popular??

Don't have a Porsche, but I have always had good luck with Gold Plug. You can find them at www.goldplug.com
