coolant leak question for the pros

Been noticing a sweet smell on the left side of the motor after long drives. No puddles on the ground, but I did notice a dried out sticky trail under the drivers side of the engine.
Pulled the alternator today as it needed to be replaced and noticed that the top of the motor on the drivers side had coolant residual on it directly behind the alternator and ac compressor. My tank seems fine as it's dusty and no signs of leaks and I tried jamming my hands in the tight spots above the motor hoping to feel a wet hose but no luck(partially as I couldn't get my hand in very far).
Has anyone experienced this, or if anyone has a map of the coolant lines to see what runs over that area.
Thanks

I would get a pressure tester and you should be able to find the leak easily when you pump the system up.

Where would you get a pressure tester? I can't imagine there is that many coolant lines in that area to figure out, and the leak is so slow I am not sure if I'd even see it spray. Just hoping for a coolant hose diagram or someone with a similar issue. But thanks D
Ps your gt2 slave conversion bracket still works perfectly.

I had the fitting that you see with the alt out come apart. Its very common, the fix is to weld over the glued fitting. Many threads on this. They also sell a kit with all new pieces to weld in.

I just bought the inserts myself for this repair. Having some other work done soon and this preventive repair is on the list. Don't want a blow out on track.

This thread should give you some insight:

Tim do you know where this fitting is? I think I know what you are speaking of but I don't think there is an issue there. The coolant tank seems fine as I can see it all with the alt removed and I don't see anything that looks wet or dried and crystally.
Why does everything with this car always have to be so tight and hard to get too!!

Well I pressure tested it for a couple of hours and it didn't lose any pressure.
There is a line that runs from the water pump to over the wet area but the hose feels dry. I also never smell it unless I go for a long 1 hour + drive. I am guessing that were the rubber line connects to the plastic rigid line that when the hose gets hot it will start to weep at the connection and wont leak at all when cold.
Has anyone else had this experience? Or has anyone had a rigid plastic line crack? Its in an area which is very difficult to access(big surprise) hopefully its just a loose hose clamp. (which is also difficult to access!!)
Advice needed, thanks

I just went through getting the fittings replaced on my TT last month. The symptoms you describe are very similar to what I had. I noticed some coolant loss but no drips. I found a wet area, as you too found, on the engine on the driver's side. Unfortunately, I drove it even after I saw this and 'POP" when the epoxied fitting - all the coolant dumped on the highway. Mechanic says it was a good ting I was traveling relatively straight ahead because he has seen this issue cause accidents.

If this is what is wrong, the only way to get to the fittings to weld them in place is to drop the engine. My bill was roughly $3500 w/ a new water pump (not necessary but did it since they were in there).

Which fitting was it? The one directly located behind the alternator?
I scoped the wet area and I can't seem to find any wet hoses, fittings included. Seems weird as I only have 26k miles on it.
Or has anyone had one pop off at this level of mileage? And is the one directly behind the alternator the most common spot?

A number of brand new GT3's and GT3RS's have had this happen at the track. Do a search in the GT3 section here and on Rennlist.

Thanks landjet I did check, your right there is alot but majority seemed at the track. My car has never seen the track. But who knows. I scoped it again for a couple of hours and couldn't track it down. The press fittings I could see with the scope looked perfect but I couldn't really see around the oil cooler.
Anybody have a diagram or pics of the coolant lines that run to the oil cooler?

The link I posted is from a local friend of mine who was just driving down the street when his blew. There are others who had the same thing happen so it's not just track driven cars.
