My passenger window wont go down (at all). the switch is good, fuses are good, and i am not hearing any motor noise / grinding. Any thoughts on what is wrong? Thanks.

No sound at all when you hit the switch? How do you know the switch is good (swapped it out)? If you don't hear a thing, I'm wondering if something got disconnected or shorted (electrically), or the motor burned out. I had a problem with the passenger window, but it was the cable inside the door (you could hear it rattling). BTW, does the window go down and up slightly when you open and close the door?

I am willing to bet you need a new regulator. Call a local glass company or porsche dealer.

Window Regulator or Motor or Other?

In reading some of the other threads on this, i don't seem to have the grinding or the window drop .... it simply just doesn't move. Either way, I ordered the regulator and will try to get it in this weekend so hopefully thats the issue.

i'm pretty sure you have a window motor internally shorted. a window regulator will make some kind of noise at least when they are bad. kinda like a crunching noise of some sort. if you say the swithch is good and you checked power going from the switch to the power side of the motor, then the circuit to the motor is good and the only thing left is the motor.

Unfortunately it sounds like the motor. More expensive than the regulator.

Have you tried the key method - holding the key all the way to lower the window?

Where are the child locks? Never knew there were any on the windows.

OK. So I have the door panel off. before i order the wrong part, is there a way I can tell if its the motor or the regulator?

Beyond what I stated above (window wont lower), i can tell that the motor is getting some power as it is moving the window slightly when i hit the up button (even though the window is up) but nothing when i hit the down button. Also, i have noticed that the back regulator has a lot of tension, much more than the one to front of the car.

Thx!

it's gonna be a little bit of work but remove the motor from the panel and remove the motor from the regualtor itsel. hit the switch up and down and if it goes up and not down still then it's the motor. but, if it goes up and down now free from the regualtor then you know its the stuck regulator. assuming you know for sure the switch is good

My 2001 C4 has the window issue you described... Makes a slight grinding noise then opens about 4 inches when you shut the driver side door. Any idea what that might indicate is needing repair?

It can be the window regulator, item #1 on the picture. Shop around I have found one for $125.00 on Ebay and it was perfect... Included a very good DIY from smistry007!!!
