Suggest some mods for my 996 TT

Gents:

After seeing some pics of the SoCal run on Saturday I think I've caught the mod bug. My '04 996 TT is stock right now. I was thinking of 19 inch wheels and coil over kit as a starting point. Say BBS LM's and Bilstein PSS9.

How harsh is the ride on 19's + low ride height compared to stock? How about bottoming out on dips? Is height adjustable? I know that the driveway approaches will be even more of a problem than I have now at stock height. Your comments are appreciated.

Zed,

19's are not compatible with better handling on a 996tt. They throw the geometry of the suspension off. If you want the looks use the 19's. If you want the handling stay with 18's and then add the coilovers. Otherwise the coilovers are a waste of money.

I agree with cjv. I tried 19's on my last turbo and it's only for looks. The car rode harsher and it didn't handle as good as it did on the 18's. The coilovers is a great idea though. If you don't want to lower it alot, you can go for the ROW suspension or you can try the factory X73 handling package for a big improvment in handling, but it'll be lower.

Good luck

clear side markers and B&M or OEM short shift kit should be first two mods....then air filter and DVs
Then the real expensive stuff starts LOL

The first thing I have done on my 993 turbo and 996 turbo is exhaust. That makes a huge difference in the sound and gives a little extra HP. Lots of choices but I prefer Fab***** Loud.

Get 19's deep dish for the looks and have a set of 18's for the track. You can just swap them depending on your mood!

If you are going to track the car you have to get a shifter upgrade like EVO. If not you will break the shifter from the linkage because there is a cheap *** plastic part that holds it together. Ask me how I know!

Next some suspension mods like PSS9's or
if you don't want to spend too much some H&R springs to lower it.

Then you start talking about modifying the ECU. Many choices here but the money mutliplys exponetially. Evolution Motorsports, PES, Imagine Auto, RUF, etc...

Good luck! And stay away from your kids college fund, lock it down tight!

try taking a ride in some cars with suspension/wheel upgrades. for me the pss-9 with 19 in kinesis f110s have garnered more attention than i could have ever imagined plus for most driving experiences the hit on handling does not interfere with smoking most cars that want to play .
