Decided it was time...almost 45k miles.

Changed the oil w/two jugs of Rotella Syn 5w-40 and a Mann Filter...all coutesy of Walmart & Advance Auto Parts.

Drained everything except the turbos; everything went smooth; off the bat I noticed after the change that the engine is wayyyyy quieter. I use to hear a very very faint IMS noise, at least that is what I suspected............ but I also read Tim's response that the valvetrain on these cars is very loud.

I opted for Rotella due to the zddp content in this oil as opposed to M1 TDT|5w-40, apparently Rotella has a faint more zddp. Plus it was about $4 cheaper per jug at Wal-Clown.

How's your IMS noise with the Rotella? And this is Rotella T6, correct?

Let us know if the IMS noise starts to come back, as mine did at about 1,500 miles with the TDT.

I'm running Delvac 1 ESP now. Motor is super quiet!

 

My friend used to get Rotella Syn for his Legacy GT and liked it alot, we can't seem to find it around anymore. Walmart around us doesnt even sell jugs of M1 0-40 anymore...

 

Both Autozone and Pepboys carry gallons of Rotella T6 syn in my area.

 

Are you getting your oil analyzed?

 

Is this a typo, or is there a thread about your last oil change? 45k miles on one oil change???!!! You should consider changing more frequently, especially for 57 dollars.

 

I meant to say, first time in my possession; previous owner changed it regularly (15k). I plan to do it every 5k.

 

Na....maybe next oil change if I see any issues; which I doubt.

 

Next time you come into Maryland, stop by any Walmart and stockpile.

 

Hard to say if it was IMS noise; i've seen a video of a 996TT w/very loud IMS noise and my car prior to the oc, didn't sound no where near that or even close to that, so it's possible mine was just normal valve train noise.

Yes, T6.... did you order the Delvac 1 ESP online, or did you buy it in a store, how often do you plan to change it?

 

I used the exxonmobil site to find a local commercial distrubutor. I have a thread on rennlist that gives the site.

I'm changing it very 3k miles.

 

Wow...3k miles; heck I wouldn't even bother wasting my time w/a syn oil then; just run a conventional 5w-40; since the oci's are so often.

If I hear anything even close to IMS then i'm going to drop a bottle of militec1 in the motor; I've used it before and it works, and I think it'll def quiet things down for good, but i'm not at that stage right now.
