Save a quick 30 lbs.

Anyone want to lose 30 relatively high cg pounds and relocate the remaining wieght down low? What's missing?

It is easy to replace the battery in our cars with an Odyssey battery. The stock weighs 46.8 lbs, and the Odyssey 680 weighs 14.6 lbs for only $85. You will need a charger if you are going to run this often.

I only have it temporarily mounted and plan to try high performance velcro to hold it down. It's dry cell so no concerns of leaking.

Here is a link for more battery info.

what does that 30 + the 50 from the spare and tools taken from the front do to the balance of the car or the already light front end?

I would leave the spare in because it's part of the "crash barrier". I might take it out if I was tracking the car and only if the track traffic was light. The battery would be great for the track also but, for every day it might be a bit of annoyance plugging in your car all the time and may need a jump once in a while.

On the crash barrier......'supposedly' it's always been incorporated into crumple design but can anyone find this actually referenced?........not on GT2/GT3 data anyway .

On "needing a charger" for this Odyssey......Color, are you saying normal alternator charge will not be enough to keep-up?

M3, voltage is voltage, no difference dry or wet cell.

You cannot use a normal trickle charger to keep it topped off. You need to get a bigger one, I have a 6 amp Deltran coming in addition to my normal deltran trickle charger.

Wardhog, you could be right but I see it as a pretty small issue and I did consider it.

Ben, good point. My car is still not sorted, but I have 265's coming for the front to help with the understeer issue.

I remember Richard CH took the sound deadning material from the rear deck and saved some weight. That looks like a much better alternative from taking weight off of the front end which is not, normally, the real heavy end of a 996 turbo.

For whatever reason.......they thought taking weight off front of GT2 / GT3 was a good idea.

'03 almost any weight you lose the better. Handling can be corrected in other areas, but weight loss benefits everything.
