Broken KW V3 Rear Spring

Broken KW V3 Rear Spring

Went to get my USP Motorsports dogbones replaced with RSS dogbones as well as the RSS Tarmac lower control arms installed for the rears (fronts were already replaced) when Bob @ Stable Energies found out that my KW V3 rear spring was broken and corroded. Called KW and they are sending me a replacement spring. Kinda sucks because of the additional labor, expense, shipping, but KW had excellent service and sent it out without much trouble. Has this happened to anyone before? I have pretty bad luck from cars as you can tell from my previous posts, but this was installed by trained professionals and KW's are a reputable brand. Maybe it's the NYC streets?

Wow, Must have been a lot of stress to crack the spring like that. Lucky somebody spotted it.

By the way the cracked edges look, you've been driving with it for a while? Sometimes a spring will become weakened when they get powdercoated, but those markings look OEM.

elastic elements are not supposed to crack...I don't think NYC streets have nothing to do with this..

I bet that spring has some defects in its metallurgy. That crack, to me, looks brittle.

Are you going to send it back to Kw?

No. They just requested that I send a picture to prove that it was broken. I guess every batch has it's defects. Kind of sucks that you have to pay the installation costs for manufacturer defects though. I guess you have to pay to play.

Great to see this as kw v3s are just placed on my car. I wonder if these are heat treated for more strength or what's exactky done to them as in the whole process. At least the rears are 1,2,3.

Yea. Not sure if they are heat treated or not. I hope the new spring that replaces this doesn't have them same defect.
