Thanks. For the pointers on finding the market place. Wish I had been around the forum long enough to post my own WTB in the marketplace.

ooking for a 996TT again. budget ~$40k. Manual Now because it will be for me not my father. near NYC.
Also willing to trade my daily driver Infiniti FX50 ($30k). Will be posting in For sale section.

These are the cars I am currently looking at, all "nearby" and at dealers. Currently searching thru Porsche's page

2001 996T, 44k Miles, $45k, 6spd, Arctic Silver over black, Westchester NY (45m away in NY)
http://www.worldluxurymotorcars.com/..._253384566.veh

2001 996T, 30k miles, $44k, 6spd, Black/Black, aero, modified car computer/nav, (Albany, NY - few hours away)
http://www.bulautosales.com/2001-por...?make=PORSCHE&

2001 996T, 31k miles, $44k, 6spd, Arctic Silver over Brown Leather, CF, Nav, etc. "$15k spent on service" - ( Illinois )
http://www.napervilleautohaus.com/de...-12926463.html

2003 996T, 49k miles, $46k, 6spd, Silver/Black, noncom wheels, LED mods, (Indiana)
http://www.sweetcars.com/inventory_detail.php?id=11485

there are some other similar ones to these but this is basically the sort of car I'm looking at.

It seems like the pricing has not moved much on these cars since my last big search.
I have been trying to keep my search semi-local for now but am indeed open to examples further away, because the cars are more expensive in my area.
Trade on my Suv would be a plus.

I just read through the thread again and wanted to thank those who helped along the way, i have re-read and taken into consideration all comments.
I want a car that is nearly stock, lowest miles possible, 02+ preferred but 01 okay too. I am planning on keeping it as a weekend car only.

of the 4 or so I posted above, 1 is actually "clean" IMO.

I just spoke to St Paul Porsche in MN who had the only 6spd 996T under 50k on the Porsche website 911 search.. (found others via cars.com) looked clean, but I called and there is no service history and the 3rd gear syncro needs to be replaced (they are doing it) and they havent sent me the carfax after 20 hours.
so, strike that one from the list.

I heard back from the World Luxury place, http://www.worldluxurymotorcars.com/..._253384566.veh
they told me the car just had an oil change, new front pads and rotors, rear pad, and 4 new tires...but need to "double check" about the service history.
I am planning on viewing this car this weekend.

Still waiting to hear back on the others.

If anyone has got one for sale you can post here or message me.

If it's not still in the shop, feel free to check it out. I am a bit wary to buy a car with a 3rd gear pop-out issue with no service history

Just keep your eyes on the for sale ads, too. I tend to run from dealers, be it right, wrong or otherwise, and I've been looking for a LONG time for a clean but rather specific 996TT. Not worth rushing or compromising, seeing as it's a weekend car for you. Good luck on your search.

That's what I've been saying... no real reason to settle. Only way I would is a huge saving on ridiculous modifications (example $60k in mods but priced as if stock with 700hp) to have as a fun car and buy a clean bone stock example down the road...

Lowest miles possible is not always the best deal. These cars like to be driven and demand to be maintained properly. I would probably prefer an 03 with 45k and excellent maintenance records to one with 22k and spotty records. Also in my opinion, if it has not been cared for cosmetically you can pretty much bet it has not been mechanically maintained properly.

I agree with all of the above. I just meant I am not interested in models with 80k miles

Found 2 an hour away, and 2 a day trip away, all at dealers (3 at porsche dealers) so will probably try and take a look at them within the next month or so.

01 with 25k miles slvr/blk $49k (Porsche dealer)
https://danbury.porschedealer.com/pr...94857/info.php

01 with 27k miles blk/blk $46k
http://www.worldclassautomobiles.net...660253005b08c/

02 with 49k miles blk/blk $45k (Porsche dealer)
http://www.porschenashua.com/used/Po...1fb767bd91.htm

04 with 42k miles blk/blk $49k (Porsche dealer)
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...05913901&Log=0

Yes I have bumped up the budget a bit but I wasn't really finding anything in the low 40's that were worth while to save a couple of bucks when I'd likely have to spend it later anyway. I'm liking the blk/blk options as polar silver isn't my favorite color - I like the idea of the 04 because it's one of the last of the 996.... latest year in the range, only 20k more miles... albeit another $5k..... however the 02 dealer offered me a fair trade-in on the car..

hopefully posting these does not lead to others poaching, but some input form experts would be helpful, as I will not be able to view these for a couple weeks - and that's only the close ones. Maybe I should wait til winter so the prices are more flexible, haha.

Never updated this.. two of those were sold when I contacted, one said he had a deposit but car still on site. the other offered me way too low a trade in....

The search continues... starting to see less and less for sale. I suppose once spring comes they will pop up.

Also, now the car is for me, and I want a manual one....

Assuming condition are similar, the model year is not as important as these cars are nearing the bottom of their depreciation curve. I'd consider options and low miles before year. The wear parts on these cars are expensive, clutches, brakes, etc. Lower miles lower wear. The big ticket options were Ceramic brakes, X50, and aero package. The reviews on the gen 1 Ceramic brakes are mixed. They last a long time but replacement rotors are hella expensive. If you want to do light mods, the X50 redponds well. Aero package is a looks thing. Wish I knew yyour FX 50 was for sale. Bought an SQ5 instead.

thanks for the advice.

My Fx50 has been up on this site for a bit, but I am not really trying to aggressively sell it yet.

I Just shot out a few emails to a couple dealers with 996TT that have a little bit higher miles but are low owners. For example, one is an 03 where the last owner had it for 8 years and took it to dealer every 3k for maintenance.... 78k miles.

for what I want to do with it, I suppose miles being a bit higher aren't a big deal as I do not plan on keeping it stock anyway. I am just caught up with wanting a low mile example but not sure if the $10k difference in price (generally) is worth having less miles when I am going to drive it a lot anyway...

After having my last car til 85k and this car to 56k (my last car was 10 years old, this one 7) I am seeing that a 10 year old car with average miles isn't that big a deal if it was maintained well....

here are two of the cars in question. The last owners had it for some time and obviously took care of them.... plus, the prices seem pretty good... crazy there are people asking high 50's for their 01 996T with 20k miles when you can get a 997TT for that money now.

http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/de...1893/overview/
03 996TT 78k $41k

01 996TT 78k $42k
http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/de...6583/overview/

both seem to have had an owner for a long time, who took care of it.

however, for around $5k more, I can get an similar year with 30k less miles on it... but some don't have the same past.

for example, here is a ONE OWNER 2002 996TT with 48k for $47k
but only 17 records and they were at a volvo dealer...maybe he did maintenance himself?
http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/de...6968/overview/

here's another that seems to have been in canada for a while, but is priced pretty well it seems
02 996TTT 48k $43k - first owner had it for 8 years before second one got it...
http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/de...8410/overview/

but then there are cars like this all the way up in $55k area, an 02 with 50k miles... and x50 ($10k more for x50)
http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/de...4196/overview/

Just strange how the same car can be $5k difference in price
