Changes between 2001-2004 996tt?

I sold my summer car and I'm just started shopping for my 996t. We're there any significant changes along the way in the 996t? Is a 2004 model and different or better than a 2001? 2002? 2003?

Reliability? Performance? Suspension?

Thanks in advance!

Mine has that little paper tray in the driver's side footwell... Surely that's all one needs! That and the comically small trunk.

There were small cosmetic changes between 01 and 02(front bumper warts, glove box, bose audio). I think in 03 they used a different electrical system for the radio, etc but overall nothing changed from 01-04. Personally I would go with the newest, best condition one possible.

There is a little rack just under the steering wheel for the manual.

Allegedly, Porsche stiffened up the body significantly in the 2002-2005 models. As mentioned by others, glovebox and some cosmetic changes from '01. Some options didn't exist in '01 also (most notably, IMHO, the X50 wasn't available until 2002+).

I think 2002 is a good year because of the uprgrades from 01 and the absence of the MOST system. That means you can easily upgrade the lousy audio system.

Seems like all the 996t in my area are 2001....

I can suck it up with loosing a glove box. As this car will just be a weekend car. I was more concerned with the Reliability and performance.

What is the "MOST" system?

That applied to non-turbos only. There is no difference between the chassis and suspension of the 01 and later cars. In 02 Porsche added a glove box, matt black switchgear, and a few other things, none performance related. On the other hand, 01's are the lightest of the 996 turbos.

Ps. The bumper warts were removed mid 01, and hollow spokes came on the later 01s as well.
