B&M vs 997short throw shifter?
I have a B&M now for 3+ years and it works fine. Anyone know if there is a great improvement from going b&m ss to the 997ss? For anyone who has had them both I would love to hear which you prefer.
I have a buddy with a 997.1tt and a short shifter which I believe is the 997 ss, if feels different than mine but I can't tell if the difference is enough to do the swap.

HI,Yes I had both...First was the B+M which was shorter shifting then stock which I loved But notchy and hard to get in certain gears some time...It was Porsche dealer installed....I just decided to go with the 997 short shifter to get a better action and feel because I thought Porsche would do it better...and I am happy I did...
.....Noticable difference which makes it funner to drive.....Also,,your trans is not covered under warranty[back then when it was still in it ] with the B+M,only with the Porsche shifter......Hope this helps.......

I too have gone from b&m to 997to 997 short shifter. Save your money for something else. Not worth the $400 to $500 with install. 997ssk is definitely smoother but it is still a little notchy and definitey notsilky smooth like stock 997 or 996.
Interesting by my math 2 to 1 say it will be worth the money and time. Maybe I wait til my b&m breaks if that is even possible. I will need to drive my buddys 997.1 tt a bit more and make sure his shifter is the 997sshifter and not a bm.
What ever it is it does feel different than mine. The difference I wold say is that it clicks into place at the end of the throw where as my bm does not as much that I can tell.
Thanks!

Yeah the 996tt stock shifter was way to long in the throw department for me. The b&m has been an improvement for sure just trying to decide if I want to go from acceptable to ideal but if there is not much difference then I will keep what I have for now.
The b&m I don't recall exactly what I paid but it was something pretty low like $200 or so and that was years ago from bumper plugs I think.
With the B&M it's critical to take your time and be as accurate as possible with the cable adjustments. Adjusted correctly, the B&M won't be very notchy, especially when the transmission is warmed up. When coupled to the EVOMS billet shift linkage, the B&M becomes as rifle bolt as you can get using the OEM cables.

I have had both the B&M and the 997ssk. The B&M was noticeably more notchy. The 997ssk assembly was smooth as butter.
Also, making sure your tranny carrier mount is in good shape will also help. The B&M for whatever reason wore thru 2 set of mounts for my shifter cables, and thats when i decided to use shifter cables from a 996 cup car.
