anyone look into the Ford GT?
anyone look into the Ford GT?
mods, i'm not sure where this should be so feel free to move it. I figured it is direct competition with the GT2 so this is the best place cuz other owners might be looking into the same thing...
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has info on how to go about buying a Ford GT. I will pay no more than MSRP, would like the car as soon as possible, and would like to deal with a dealer that has some clue what he's talking about. Anyone look into this or have a good connection at Ford?

You should probably just call the sales manager at the largest Ford dealer in your area. Find out about the allocation vs. the waiting list and the dealer/ manf's policy regarding tacking on overages beyond MSRP.
For me personally the only real temptation that still lingers as I contemplate my used 996TT purchase is the occasional used Ferrari 360 advertised for $99,000.

I agree with Mansour, I could never see myself buying a 140,000 ford. I would much rather get a Turbo or a ferrari or a Gallardo. I know that the car is faster, but if speed is all you want, then get a viper, and twin turbo charge it.

Offroad,
Unfortunately getting one at MSRP will be out of the question. A good friend is a GM at one of those plantation/large dealerships which will be getting one. The alocation is going to the best dealers and in very limited qauntities. It will be rare and powerful so...
I'm just a car nut who appreciates all makes & models to an extent...

again, not the question i was asking. I happen to buy and love cars taking into account everything BUT the hood emblem. If you can read what has been written on this car and look at the pictures and not think it is worth every penny then you are missing something. In fact, this is exactly what happened when the GT40 came out. Ford built a car without consideration of costs just to prove to everyone they could make the best car in the world. No one believed them. Then the GT40 spanked the Ferraris and is still my favorite car ever and right up there with the best cars ever built.
Anyway, i digress. I don't know why anyone would be interested in your personal opinions towards Ford products. I merely thought that possibly a group of guys that clearly are/were in the market in this price range would be able to help me with my question.

Sorry steve, I did not read the whole first post to well. But to answere your question, i dont know if the GT40 is like the Maybach, insomuchas there are only some ford dealers that are authorized to sell you them, best thing to do is call around, you will eventualy hit someone that knows what he or she is talking about. Going back to my first post, although the car is a ford, it has a lot of heritage, and if Ford keeps the production numbers down, it might accually appreciate.
RDH,
The guy (I forgot his name) who had the keys to the one at the USGP said they were going to be making 4500 cars @ $150,000 each. That number means anything but rare.
Steve,
Have you talked to any dealerships at this point to get some sort of idea of the demand?

RDH,
Relax. I'm only pointing out what someone who works for FORD and who was responsible for the GT that was at Indy said. That seems to be contradictory to what your GM friend said. Who is right?
I only advised Steve to call a dealership to see if he could get an idea of the demand. This would be in addition to the info you provided. Steve might call 10 different dealers and have 10 different responses.
Why should he make decisions solely based on our comments?
And nowhere did I say I was an expert on anything.

haven't called anywhere yet. I hate dealing with car salesmen so i was hoping to get a more focused strategy first. I'm sure i'll get on the horn sometime this week.

Steve,
I am afraid I am not able to answer your questions on this board, but I will step in and make a sharp 180 from the other opinions.
I think the GT40 is awesome and I could not care less that it has the name "Ford" on the hood. I had a chance to see one up close a few months ago, and if I didn't just buy a Ferrari 360 I would seriously be looking at the GT40. It is an exotic by any definition and is going to be a serious contender for both Ferrari and Lamborghini, not just in speed but in handling, agility, and just about any other performance criteria.
Good luck in your search!
