996TT to a CL65 or CL63

Random thread.. but was curious if anyone has owned either the 2007+ CL63 or 65AMG? And if so.. did you come from a 996TT? I've owned 2 996TTs and I'm thinking of switching into the luxury performance realm.

I'm obviously a sucker for a turbo car, and the CL65 v12 biturbo is enticing. But I've heard the CL63 naturally aspirated engine is livelier and the car as a whole is newer/better quality.

So any reviews from a pcar owner to an AMG owner?

I just made the move from 3 AMG cars over the past 8 years (C32, E55, CLS55) and am qualified to comment on the CL. They had / have a lot to offer, that is for sure. As for the CL class, they are known as the 2 door yacht. Very heavy, luxurious interior and good power. IMHO the CL65 w/ a tune and a few other mods is plain fast. The CL63 is not as mod friendly although a good set of Long Tube headers w/ a tune will yield some good results but take the luxury out of the car a bit. The older 65's can be had for cheap. They were plagued w/ some electronic gremlins and I wouldn't dare own one without a great extended warranty. Mercedes did a good job fixing these issues that should have never plagued one of their flagships. The 2007+ looks sporty and classy but will be worlds different from our 996tt (at least in the luxury department). Good luck!
LMK if you want to part out your car. I"m in the market for turbos and shopping UMW.

65AMG + tune = 120+hp gain. Those things pull like a freight train. Just ask yourdelf of you are looking for a sharp handling of a straight line performance and comfort.

You're already getting a boat (if you go down this road), so you might as well get the big turbo V12. My father has an SL63 and the engine is great and sounds amazing, but I think the biturbo 5.5 liter V12 suits that giant heavy car more than the revier V8 muscle engine in the 63 series cars. That seems more appropriate on something like an SLS to me. My vote is V12!

I like the idea of a V12 biTurbo.. But they are tough to find here. I got my eye on a '08 CL63 which I'll test drive Thursday. I'm not sure If I'll make the switch or not.. it depends on my test drive. Nothing is really going to compare w/ my modded 996TT in terms of thrill and power.

What I do like about the Merc is how unbelievably solid and rattle free the interior is. The fit and finish is amazing. My dads '01 S500 is still a tank from when he bought it new.. drives so smooth with no rattles or issues (fingers crossed I didn't jinx that). A CL63 or 65 coupled with 500+hp and a very sexy body is enticing to say the least.
