oil leak help!

Grrrrr. Bought the car 2 weeks ago and it was dry as a bone.

Tonight I notice a dime sized oil drop under the car.

Snapped a pic.... Where do you guys think I should start to be concerned with.

First guess would be the dreaded rear main seal. [RMS] Someone probably cleaned it up just prior to the sale. Did you have the car pre-inspected?

No I didn't. I had 3 different shops looks for oil leaks while the previous owner did tires/alignment/oil change before I took the car.

The reservoir is over this area on the right of the engine and there is a return line that is connected on the reservoir left side...It can be leaking too.....

If it is a RMS. Is there a special tool needed to replace this? My mechanic buddy did a c4s, and said a special tool was required.

Yes. Not just any bearing press tool, but a Porsche tool. I understand that this is a job for someone that specifically does a lot of Porsche work.

JoeFerg is infamous around these parts
Dont rule out the IMS bearing. Get the transmission removed and looked at immediately. Have you IMS bearing upgraded with LN Engineering's kit and Rear main oil seal too.
The Porsche RMS tool makes the job very easy. You cant f#$% it up using the correct tool.

EDIT: Ooopps haha, just realized this is the turbo/gt2 section. Disregard my comment on the IMS!

Just had a thought. This leak started after an oil change.

When I was changing the filter I didn't have the dime sized o-ring that goes on the base of the stem so I reused the old one. If that leaks, where would that oil go?

A little bit of oil would bypass the filter only without leaking externally....

No sweat, no special tools needed.. It would be the price to fix as if you where having the clutch and flywheel replaced Plus the cost of the seal.
