Looking at the published numbers (from Porsche) on differences between tiptronic and manual, the deficit is just way too large - I don't believe it. For the Boxster S, for example, (987) they say the tiptronic is .8 seconds slower to 60 - c'mon now. The margin for the Carrera S is less, with .4 second difference, but even that I find hard to believe.
On average, they are publishing numbers about half a second slower to 60 - anyone do a test of these?

Shark - of all people, YOU should know how to properly launch a tip - tell us, and keep in mind not everybody has a tip with 843zillion hp

I'm interested in tiptronic basically because it is better on the track for most drivers, except those who have incredibly efficient and constantly perfect shifting capabilities. I suck at 6-speed only because I haven't had the practice on it for years now, but I know I could pick it up quickly. On the track, I can see myself missing a shift or riding the clutch around a turn here and there. I like concentrating only on the throttle, brake, and my points in the turn, and having the tip is one less thing to worry about. Unfortunately stick is WAY more fun, particularly for the drop-top Boxster which doesn't have as much torque as a TT (although I had much more fun in the TT manual than tiptronic when I was testing them both). Why can't we have our cake and eat it too?
I had a tip 996TT and it rocked. Very little real world difference than a 6-speed.
However, on naturally aspirated models (especially the 2.7L boxster), the tip is SLOW.

i think that the tip is the only way to go and i hear that the next generation will be even better. as far as BMW SMG goes, i'll take the tip over it as well, ALL day long.. the future is tips and the "new" smg.................
I don't understand your comment. Why is tip the only way to go? it's an automatic right?, it has a torque converter, why is that better than BMW's SMGIII or Ferrari's F1 gearboxes?
I can't imagine a torque converter being a better option than a clutch as far as performance is concerned.
