Exhaust question

Just wondering what size piping is used on the fabspeed vs. 911 tuning exhausts. I'm guessing 3"? Maybe 2.5"?

As far as ours we can do whatever you want... we make them per order per client...
Something to consider:
DO you mean 3" from turbo to tip? reason being is that that is a misleading statement...
A full 3' exhaust should not have any reductions including the tips.. thus if you see someone promoting a 3" exhaust make sure you look at the tips.. if they are using OEM style tips then you just reduced your exhaust to 2.1" at the end... reason being that the OEM piping is 2 and 3/8th " OD not 3"...
With that said, the smaller the diameter the quieter the exhaust... most cases I use all 3' piping then depending on the client I choose the ID of mufflers and then we make the tips which can be 2.5" or 3".
Our full 3" exhaust made 1000+ whp...

Here is proof that our X is really 3" inside...

Some details inside... ( everything is ported inside...)

fully functioning 3" dual tips

That's why I was asking. I do want a 3" exhaust, but also love the look of my factory split tips. I was thinking of having someone use a plasma cutter on the factory tips to open them to 3"'s if that is possible. I haven't taken them off yet to measure. I don't mind if the exhaust is loud, just no drone. Thanks for the reply.

You dont need a plasma cutter... but doing something like that almost requires it be done on the car because the tips would have to get cut/welded... you see..most of the exhausts do not use the V band male /female for connections.. ( don't get me wrong some do).. that is the correct way without any room for leaks... but its a lot cheaper and way less hassle to just offer a slip on with a $12 clamp rather then welding a male / female ring on each side to perfection so when they come together its 100%. WIth that said, without the surgery done on the car it would be difficult to get the angles and heights right on the oem altered tips... I actually do not thing its even possible.. I looked at it before and the 3" piping is just too big to even mate it to the oem tip... you do not want to create some odd vacuum and it may whistle/whine on you... BTW, LOUD is always inducing some form of drone... the whole aspect of a full 3" especially without cats will give you a little of it.. but then your going after a 3" race exhaust that can handle 3 times the OEM HP.... SO don't expect miracles because when someone says NO drone to me it means a no go... reason being that most of the regular after market exhausts have some drone... unless your using mufflers with baffles and 200 cell cats ... but then why even change the OEM in that case... so be realistic... Its like asking for a big HP turbo without the lag.. never going to happen...

Gotcha. Thanks for the info. Yeh, I guess I really haven't heard race exhausts w/o some drone. Usually depends on the RPM's from what I have heard on my other cars with 3" exhaust systems, even ones with bafflers and straight through mufflers have some drone, but no big deal really. I'm more interested in HP gains more than anything. Thanks again!

I have a custom muffler version exhaust car in your area... it is a quiet version in Sottsdale...

Mattyrae is infamous around these parts
For a 996tt with just a tune, is there any problems or issues doing 3 inch vs 2.75?

Again your your talking about partial OD piping... what happens when the pipe goes inside the muffler(s)... is it 3" , 2" 2.5", 2.75".... they what happens when it exists to tip...
Generally speaking a combo of 3" and 2.5" is fine...

How big is the outlet coming off the turbo? I am assuming the cats come right off the turbos.

No, I do not think anyone does.. The turbo housing happens to be 3.25" OD.
Even OEM exhaust drops down to 2.1" at the tip

here,
look at our ski850 turbos... the OD is only 2.5" on the turbo yet we run 3" piping and this set up which makes low 700s whp ( fuel pump limitation) otherwise it will go higher...
