Telling the difference between a TT and a GT2 ...

Hi all,

I often find myself wondering "Is that actually a GT2?" when I see a 996 with a nice wing going by me ...

Here are the differences I know (learned here, for the most part)

Rear wiper : GT2 doesn't have one. Not even as an option? A GT2 really can't have a rear wiper?

Rear seats : GT2s can't be equipped with it. Right? Not even as a crazy option?

Tiptronic ... pretty explicit. GT2 does not get it.

Wheels : I know they are different (hollow spokes vs something else), but can hardly say "these are GT2" or "these are TT rims". When I see them ... and it's not like I'm gonna take the rims to measure the weight difference! lol

Ride height : kinda subjective, althought the GT2 tires seem to always be tucked in a little ...

PCCB brakes -yellow calipers- : GT2 always gets it (unless it is retrofitted with standard brakes). Turbo gets both ...

Anybody have tips in addition to these to differentiate the 996TT vs the 996GT2? Carbn bits and pieces? Quad tip availibility? Bumper lips? ... etc

No psm on the GT2. Big difference. RWD, another big difference...GT2 badge on rear deck....although there have been a few TT's that have added the GT2 badge...GT2 is printed on the instrument dials, GT2 insig on the ebrake handle. No speakers in the door panels, only pockets...

Forgot to mention "only visual differences" ...

I hear ya on the GT2 badges on TTs ... and that's why I asked. I see so many alledged GT2s (correct bumpers and wings) with rear wipers that I started wondering if I wasn't wrong.

vent between the front bumper and hood, no sunroof, front and rear spoiler (of course, the mechanical list is quite long)

If the person driving is smiling - it's a GT2. It held its value....

on PCCB rotors hub will say ''GT'' than ''Turbo'' if the Turbo has PCCBs.

sadly most conversion on the GT2 front bumpers are not done right so u can see the wrong ducting inside & wires/hoses expose everywhere.

GT2s' rear fenders are rolled from factory Turbos' are not.

GT2 wing doe not go up & down this is for someone confused the difference between the ''GT2 look'' and the real deal.

if u tab the GT2/3s roof panel it's hollow rather than TTs solid top even with TTs with sunroof delete option. btw, the sound is very nice!

The first thing I look at is the roof .... sunroof or not

I'd imagine there were very few TT's ordered with the sunroof delete.

Interesting ... never knew about the rotor hub ... lots of good info here ...
The bumpers and such can be changed easily ... but the rotor hub and interior will tell the truth!!

So there is no such thing as a "rear wiper" option on the GT2?

As far as racing them or watching the driver's smile ... I'm way behind anyways! lol

I love everything about the GT-2, except no sunroof! I know it's trivial, but I really like having a sunroof. It's not enough to stop me from buying one.
