Do our cars have a "throttle position sensor" ?
Do our cars have a "throttle position sensor" ?
Guys,
I'm not sure if its the nature of 996tt's, but my throttle is REALLY sensitive.
When i am barely on the throttle, the car becomes jerky (almost as if i am taking my foot on and off the gas quickly).
I cleaned the MAF, and i ran the car at 60mph with cruise control on. No problems.
I'm assuming that there much be dirt or debris by the accelerator.
Is this a common issue ? Is this something that requires me to replace a part or is it something that can be cleaned off ?

I'm beginning to suspect my throttle body needs cleaning for similar behavior. It's barely perceptable, but noticeable nonetheless. I recently ran a bottle of techron injector additive which has noticeably improved throttle response throughout the power band and yet, occasional hesitations do exist . Usually btw 2500/3000 rpm. I have also suspected ( and changed ) the maf. I know from experience now that these cars are very sensitive to dirty fuel filters and injectors are easily dirtied/clogged ESP with the lousy pump gas in CA. It doesn't take much mechanically to slightly slow these cars down!

To answer your question Steve, there is 2 position sensors (potentiometers) for the throttle valve located within the throttle body. I am not sure if they can be replace individually. (see attach wiring diagram)
i'm no expert by any stretch and you've got more experience with these cars than i do, but your symptoms mimic mine, although possibly to a greater degree, but still i would bet your issue lies somewhere within the fuel system. when was the last time you changed out fuel filters or even the injectors? once these things are clogged and/or dirty that's how the minor annyonces that result in uneven fuel flow manifest themselves. uneven or even "jerky" throttle response. at least, that's been experience. try some of the techron injector cleaner ( 10oz? bottle ). it's cheap and can only help. thread(s) on it here also. at the risk of repeating myself, "our" gas.. sucks.

you can deffenatly clean the throttlebody out with carb cleaner i wouldnt recomend cleaning the mass air flow sensor and if you havent replaced the fuel filter since owning the car i would do that fuel filter is due every 60k and plugs every 30k porsche recomends every 4 years on plugs if that milage isnt reached and i woulg go ahead and do the fuel filter as well with plugs if you want to run an injector cleaner it wont hurt but iv never had to replace one on a turbo in my years of working these cars iv probably changed 2 injectors on a boxter
Recently had the "code errors" for the potentiometer and throttle position sensor light. When this happens, the car goes into a "protective state" and won't allow the throttle body to open. It'll require clearing the codes, and you'll need a durametric or other code reader/device. It requires the key position to be set to "1PM" position in ignition. then clear the codes. It took three tries to get it right for me. So be mindful of it.

This is my first post, although I have been reading for a while. My car has the same issues described above. When I am soft on the throttle - fluctuating between on and off gas I get the hesitation. If I am more aggressive with the throttle, I don't notice it. I am beginning to suspect the either the gas peddle switch or the TPS at the Throttle body. I am thinking about getting a scan tool if it will be able to read the voltage? I am now doing some research on what a good one is.
