Driver head light out :(

Last night I noticed my driver headlight went out. This mornin it was back but after a drive went out again.

Took the headlight out and put back in. No good. It's just the actual HID that's out and the small headlight bulb. Signals work and all that.

Any suggestion?

Now the HID works. But it seems to be a different color. And the little headlight bulb isnt lit.

porschetec is infamous around these parts
sometimes it is a poor connection when you "plug" the headlight into the car.
clean the pins or bend them a little to get better contacts.

either that or your HID bulb needs to be replaced.

I'll try spraying the connectors tomorrow.

It's the contacts. Been there with the turn signals and fog lights.

I recently had the left front turn signal go out. I tried to replace the bulb but that didn't work. Turns out that it was the contact. I fixed it by using a small (jewelers) screw driver to push the pins in the housing more towards each other, and also made sure that the contacts with the bulb were clean and applying pressure. I'm still trying to figure out why it usually seems to be the driver's side with the problem (from what I've read).

Cleaned connectors. Still just hid bulb purple. And no driving light.

Any other suggestions?

Have you tried replacing the bulbs? You could swap the passenger side bulbs over just to check. It does seem unlikely that both bulbs would go out at the same time -- but maybe one bulb is out and the open circuit is causing a problem with the other bulb. Just shooting in the dark here now (no pun intended).

swaping bulbs left to right would be the best troubleshooting @ no cost. If the problem follows the bulb then you know its the bulb/ballast. If it stays on that same side there's a connctivity problem....break out the volt meter. It appears the ballast and bulb are one assembly....HID-D1S http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...RG-Results.htm

It seams that the factory color intensity is 4300. now would be the time to raise it to 6k with a whole new kit if you are wanting a brighter white light. 2 new bulbs and ballast. there is 8k that has a pinch of blue. Stay away from 10 and 12k
