How many of you here fill you gas while the car is running?
Well last night i put a mere 20 dollars of fuel while the car was running, got back into my car and saw that the gauge was still at the empty mark with the light on and the display telling me that i had 40 mles left. I turned the car on and off with still the same result.
fast forwar to this morning, same scenario. so i go to the gas station and fill it with 10.52 gallons. go into the car and the gauge isnow reading accurate?? Has this happened to anyone here? aCan i expect the gauge to remain accurate? TIA --Rob

Its probably cause you were to empty for the sensor to read accurately even after fill up. Once you get to the point where the light comes on, unless you hit more than a quarter worth of gas, it won't read.

I keep it running and so does everyone else in this country (it's too hot to turn off the AC for even a few seconds). I noticed the same thing, the needle doesn't move until some minimum amount of fuel has been added. Seems to be normal.

Your car running shouldn't be the problem. I had my key in my car once cuz' my girlfriend was listening to a song on a radio and expected that I'll have to turn the car off completely for it to show fuel level properly.
It turns out that this is not the case. It updates both your analog and digital (miles left) in real time. So you can see both increasing while you're pumping gas.
You probably have problem with your sensors.
Also. Don't leave your friggin car running while filling it with gas.

I have witnessed the same thing. If I fill up with the car running the gauge will not move. It seems to take about 10-20min for it to slowly increase to the proper level.
If I shut the car off, which I always do now, it registers correctly.
My Range Rover does the exact same thing so I don't think It is abnormal. Just something to do with how the system works.

My needle dynamically moves as the gas goes in. I watch it to make sure that it is full since the pumps seem to shut off early with my car.

HI,,I believe it has to do with the fact we have to 2 seperate tanks with a common joiner and the float is probably in one of those halfs.,,So,I imagine it has to do with how much fuel you put in and what side it goes to,,,IMO....I do have that problem sometimes,,, if I dont fill it up all the way sometimes.......Also,I fill my car up with it running....
