If so can't always judge by that car. You could put Walker in a Festiva and he'd still probably win.....lol

Tom
Yes that was the night. He won, I lost

Show me a 996TT trapping in the 150's. There are plenty of TT Vipers doing that and more. A modded Viper is a sick machine.

If I wanted to make 1000+ hp, the Viper or possibly upcoming Z06 would be where I'd start. You simply need less creativity to get bigger numbers with bigger displacement. Sure, 3 liter V-10s make lots of power in F1, but we need reliability which is best achieved with good components and reasonable specific output.

The '03-current Viper is off the showroom floor a little quicker than the Turbo and a little less quicker than a Turbo S. In real world, it's close enough to be driver dependent. As fewer Vipers remain stock, they are no longer the whuppin' boys for the Porsche Turbos.

Glad we have so many good choices.

WHoa, this is news to me. If Cargraphic is spreading erroneous rumors based on a "3rd gear, 5 second, heavy traffic pull Hershel had on the Viper (he pulled 1.5 to 2 cars in front) with my first experiece of 3rd gear traction loss(I let off as 826East was loaded with cars) , I guess their perception on what happened at the "officlal shootout" was heavily skewed too.

For the record, I already owned a faster stage 4 GT programmed car (Which is just as fast or faster than the cargraphic/RS Tuning map,) and with 93 octane and 900RWHP on the Viper, it would not even be close. You're talking probably 10 to 15 to 20 car lengths in front. At 900RWHP, the traction loss is there, but managable.....even in third...just takes some getting used to.

I would challenge Cargraphic's car to a 1 mile race - on pump gas. If I win, Cargraphic should pay for all shipping expenses (to and from), and section off a corner of their office to a SHANK WORSHIP SHRINE and sell snake oil in leue of losing to a Viper. If they win, I will sponsor their next sema event.

I just don't understand why some people can't live with the fact that modded Porsche Turbos are not in the same league as modded Vipers in the straight line. It's not a big deal... just one of many measures of a great sports car.

There are currently no Porsche Turbos that can touch a fully modded *****-out Viper TT/Supercharged (or Supra Single, for that matter of fact) in the straight line, save for perhaps Eddie Bello's old 9-sec drag Porsche. It's nothing to be ashamed of, but just the facts... street Vipers and Supras trapping 140+ are not uncommon... and 150+ traps are definitely not unheard of. How many Porsches are trapping 140+ (I think Evo has done it, anyone else)?

Of course, with more development time, Porsches may join that elite upper tier of straight-line speeders... or maybe not.

I obviously love Porsches... but, let's be realistic... modded Turbo vs. modded Viper in the straight line... no contest. Not a big deal... just the facts...

Street racing is heavily and mostly guaged on the size of the driver (or idiots) *****. Take the comparison to a track and it is easy to quantify the strengths and weaknesses of these two cars. Steering input has a funny relation to brake and throttle under load. Is is apparant that these opinions have a direct relationship to drag racing. With two fine cars such as these, why limit them to the drag racing only level? If this is the case, buy a Vette. Just my two cents.

I think the real issue is that most people (even skilled ones) will have spotty performance in launching a 900HP Viper. The TTs AWD will allow for better starts if you don't bog it off the line.

At freeway speeds, it will be a simple torque race.
