barebones, I don't think my wife would be caught dead in the scion, but your thought is a good one. I may look into something like that too.
I was actually considering a Ford Escape. '02's can be had for 12k-14k.

I just had to go with it. So where were we? Oh yeah, you were considering trading your wife for two low-maintenance models?
(If Mr's Scott sees this, I'm so dead)
Low-maintenance models, how's that for an oxymoron?

Your wife told you to sell the car right?

Once you start thinking about selling, you most likley end up doing it.

I bought my daily driver first ... an '05 Mazda3. Got one with an automatic for the freeway commute to work and back. Plus, I don't think my boss's would look to kindly on me driving a GT2 to work

hmm..does it have to be a sedan? What about a used landcruiser or lexus lx470? What about the new lexus Gs for a sedan or even the previos models since they depriciate like hell and reliability is great with these models too. However, they have been known to be cars with no souls

Well, I think after today that I'm not selling. But normally, you're right about that.

Scott,

I had a similar dilemma when my daughter was born 7 months ago. I decided to sell my turbocharged Miata (275rwhp) and replace it with a "respectable" daily driver. I kept my modded RX-7 as a track toy and the wife has the Infiniti FX-35. After much research, I decided on a slightly used 2003 330i 4-door with the ZHP performance pkg to replace the monster miata.

The 330i ZHP handles great, is near luxury and comfortable. It is a great daily driver. It fits 2 in the back fine for short to medium distances, but I wouldn't want to ride to Dallas back there. A 5-series would be better if you want to cart people on long hauls. Anyway, after 6 months of owenership, I now want to replace it with a sports car. Why? for two reasons: 1- Although it does everything extremely well, it isn't exciting enough for me. Ditto for the Lexus, Audi, Acura, etc. 2- I haven't needed it once to drive my daughter around.

I drove a colleague's Elise for a day and it was a blast. I loved it. But I would not want to drive it to work everyday. It's a lot like owning a motorcycle: When the time is right, nothing is more liberating, but the rest of the time it's a poor choice to get anywhere. I'm not trying to **** off any Elise owners. It's the car of my dreams come to life. But the rain and heat of Houston will limit its use.

I rented a 2005 Boxster in S. California a couple of months ago. What a great car. But after the TT, I'm sure you will find it power deficient as torque is hard to give it up once you are used to it. It also felt heavy. I'm comparing it to a Miata, but that's what I know well. While the Elise felt lighter and handled far better than the Miata, it also revealed what a great car the Miata is regarding tossability, neutrality and price. The Boxster is a better car than either of them when looking for a multipurpose (work/track/grocery-getter/road trip) sports convertible.

My current line of thinking is to sell the 3 series and the RX-7 and get a TT. The only drawback is that so many daily driver miles will be wasted on such an amazing performance machine.

I used to have a 2000 Lexus GS, and it was very plush and nice... just boring as all get out. I don't think I could go back to that.
There is no soul for sure.

I don't really want an SUV since we already have the Explorer. SUV's are great, but even more boring than sedans to me, so I want to get the best I can which would be a "sporty" sedan even if it's not fast.

I found a 2001 330i for 21k w/ only 28k miles... something like that would make me happy.

We used to have this as a 3rd car and sold it a while back. Now I'm wanting it back...

I also loves sports sedan. I have always owned one until recently. Having 2 SUV's is great, I don't have to borrow my wife's car to water or snow ski. The GX drives like a car. The GS is way to ugly to drive IMO. I think you will be much happier with the TL, it looks awesome. Hope you make the right decision as I struggle with it everyday owing a TT with 2 young boys going to college in about 10 yrs.

Scott,

You are delusional, do not do anything for a couple days. You will
regret selling the tt. I sold my 993 tt in 2000 to get a convertible and it was a 2000 Jag XKR convertible with 390 hp. While it was a beautiful car and fairly fast I missed my tt so much. Once I bought my 996 turbo I told myself no matter what I will never be without a turbo Porsche again. There are lots of other cars I would like to own but I will not do it at the expense of selling the tt.

Just my humble opinion.

Good thoughts. Now the wheels are really turning.
The thing is, I don't want to spend too much on a nice sedan because in the end, I get bored with sedans anyway. I think I'd be just as happy with a $30k TL as I would a $50k new 5 Series in the long run. They'll both get boring.

OTOH, getting a Boxster S vs. an Elise is a very attractive option just from a cost perspective, but plus it may be more fun on the street. I dont' know because I dont' have any real experience with the Elise.

Any Elise owners? What do you think about driving it around town, etc? Can you take road trips in it ever? (Like 3-4 hours)
Dude, dont get a TL. For a little bit over $30k you can get an E-46 M3 or a really nice E-46 330. Good luck either way.
Regards,
Luis

Buddy and Luis,

Thanks guys.

Well, guess what? There's no way I'm selling this car!!!!!
I drove again today and decided, NO F&$KING WAY!

When you're sitting at your pc, and looking over things like finances and cars.com shopping, you forget what you got. Selling my Turbo would be a huge mistake. I LOVE this car, and I know I would end up exactly like Buddy said.

Luis, you sure the E46 M3's can be had for that cheap?
I know I can get a really nice E46 330i for around 30k.

Thanks again guys from rescuing me from my insanity.
