Evil thoughts (dumping TT for ...)
Scott,
Yes, Low to mid $30's over in my neck of the woods for 01's. Good call on keeping the TT. I honestly think you would be kicking yourself in the near future after your sale.

Luis

I can sell for ~$80k (not sure I even want to do this, but I'm just brain storming).
Then get an Elise for $48K or so... is that realistic?
Then a sedan for $30-$40k.
I don't need an uber-sedan like the M5, but something like either a 3 series, new TL (really like those for some reason), pre-owned 5 series E39, or something else along those lines.
I just also HATE the idea of not having my TT, but for my reasons of owning, this may be a good switch for me.
In reality, I probably won't do this, but I'm just thinking...

But seriously folks, test drive an Infiniti G35. Not pretty but drives pretty well. I looked at it when I was shopping for my mom and ended up buying her a TL, which is very nice but isn't as much a driver's car as the G. The G was impressive for the money and if you wanted to spend more then the new M's are worth a look.
The 2-door G35 does not have a uasable back seat. The 4-door has good torque and it handles ok, but it is no BMW.
E46 M3s can be had for mid 30's in Houston, but they are well worn. Remember they are 2-door only, so if you are hauling clients it isn't good for them.
Another option is to step down to a 4-door 325 E46. They can be had for mid-20s with a BMW warranty. Low on power, but they handle well, have a nice interior, are perfectly respectable and get decent mileage. For the money, you can't beat it.

The leading contenders for me are a used 330 or 325... I've found some '02 330i's for <$25k.
Or a new TL.
The G is nice, but I really prefer the TL's interior, exterior, and features over the G. The M and/or FX is more than I want to spend if I'm holding onto my Turbo.... which I am.
I don't want a heavily used M3. They are suspect to begin with for reliability, and on top of that, I need a sedan more than a coupe.

Scott have you ever considered buying a new 325i, now that the new body style just came out, you should be able to get a new 05 that is left over for about 25K, as they offered me one for 26K on October of last year that was left over, from a sticker of 31500, I assume now that the new 3 series is out you should get even more discount, and BMW come with maintenance incliuded for 4 years 50K
Ive driven the elise and its in no way as comfortable as the TT, it is very mean and a real drivers car though no practicality. Beware if you push one in a curb and see the grip it has you will want one, however I think the Turbo is much more car and they are really non comparable as one starts at more than twice the price of the other new.

I am sure any 996TT with appropriate modifications will keep up with any new incarnation of the 911 turbo that Porsche plans on offering to the " Keeping up with the Jones' crowd"
Check it...time to sell Mansour

scott, glad to hear that the madness is over and you are keeping the turbo
. thought about this a few times and when i get the itch a minor mod helps keep things fresh.
i really agree with the decision for a used 4dr on many levels:
a) avoiding the worst of the depreciation
b) lots of great bargains out there
c) simply a lot of great cars to choose from.
d) a relative lack of exciting higher end sedans imo
the new 3 series is on the lot of our dealership and there are many e46 3s avail.
my personal preference is a mid-size sedan, hence my 540i sport
these cars are reliable, cheap (when compared to new) and plenty powerful. i have a 2001 and it is still a very tight and responsive car.
keep us posted
btw, a reliable chevy beats Found On Road Dead anyday

Geoff,
You are smoking what Msindi is. Chevy sucks, Ford rules. hehehe
Yeah, I was shopping 325's, C240s, C320s, 330i, A4's... there's ton of stuff out there for good prices.

I had most other fancey cars( 99 vt roadster diablo, 01 modena, a pair of lotuses, bmw m3, 97 TT, sl500... etc.
I , like buddy g, will not give up my TT for other dressed up Italian princess thats all show and no go. 'm speaking from experience. once all these guys who traded in their TTs cause they "dont get that many looks" and got some fancy english Bentley GT crap or a gellardo for that matter- when they are arguing with the service manager "why it will take 2 months to get the part from Italy" thats when they will realize how prescious a porsche really is. Or when, like I, went on a date to a fancy restaurant- had to be towed because It dropped 3 quarts of oil on the street... in the diablo.
wake up guys... I've been there.. and done it....English cars still cant get the electronics in order(since the 1970s).. and the Italians are too busy either drinking coffee or arguing about a soccer game... I went to the original Lamborhini factory september of 2001... at the unvailing of the lambo- it didnt even start when they pulled the curtain- that was bad publicity... thats when i dumped my roadster.
nothing against Italians.. just the cars they produce.
