check out pumptech's longblock parts for-sale thread...he seems to have all the major engine parts!

The problem with buying a used motor is that you have no idea what you are getting. If you do a rebuild, you know what is inside.

New crate motors are ~$20k+

I thought I'd seen some posts here on 6speed, that some U.S. Porsche dealership sponsors (Sunset, Sonnen, or Suncoast, don't recall) had complete 996TT engines for around $18,000. Maybe that was a one-time deal?
I was gonna say the same thing... I thought for sure that crate motors could be had for low 20s or high teens?

That's really a mess. Sorry that this happened.

The OP is in Switzerland, where everything costs a lot more.

At that price, the car may fit the definition of a total loss, i.e., would cost more to fix than the value of the car. The insurance company may end up deciding what happens.

In Switzerland the car is still worth 60-70K USD, I have some pics will post soon, R.I.P my previous engine, 2 connecting rods were just bent and 1 piston shattered into 100 pieces. Very Impressed with Sportec, such a massive tuning shop. They are doing lots of stuff for Russian Clients and sorting out some 9FF tuning disasters

Im surprised the previous shop didn't feel that they were in overboost mode... they must have flew..
and I always hear BS from others about guys running boost controllers messing up the motors... Ironically the clients with the EBCs are more prudent then those without... a simple oem mistakle can blow it up too.. such was the case here...
good luck with the build

Good point about the location... but your own post contradicts itself.

A replacement 996TT in Switzerland might cost $100k+, thereby avoiding a total-loss situation...

whatever the car is worth, the point is that its more than a replacement engine with labor.

Sorry to hear, Richard! There's at the moment few used engines for sale in ebay.de around €10k, you might want to check that out too. OTH how about a 3.8 or 4.0 build? GT3 crank, Pankl rods and Wössner pistons...

Thanks bad107, I do have a lot of stuff. I'm sure you have seen the add!! if you do need any of the stuff I have I would be glad to ship over seas and would offer some off the top for bulk purchases. I'm sure you probably don't know all the facts yet as to what you need but when you do, you know where I am at! Il PM you too.

Yes and that's a piston in the green box, now what is the telephone number of EPL tuning who apparently removed my boost limiter when my AMS billet turbos were fitted .....
