Make sure if your a six speed that it isn't the free wheeling pulley on the front of the alternator that hasn't failed. I thought my regulator was out turned out to be the pulley.
You can get them from pelican parts also, they upgraded them making it a 997 part.

What were your symptoms? Was it causing the belt to slip?

It was voltage that would drop suddenly, would happen most times when I came off the freeway and quickly slowed down. I'd sit at a light and could feel that something wasn't just right without even seeing the gauge. Notice it was low(spinning freely, clutch in the pulley not fully grabbing) give it a little gas and all of a sudden it would go back to normal.

Interesting. I didn't even know the alternator had a clutch. I thought the AC compressor was the only accessory with a clutch? And that part number is for an alternator assembly.

It's for a alternator pulley but for six speed cars only. Helps with vibrations in the belt and makes it easier for the whole system. Here is a link showing how it works.

I think Gates generally makes decoupler pulleys, I think the car uses an INA Clutch

I think there both the same there both OAD pulleys just built different. The discription sounds the same between the two.
Again this isn't the bosche model that Porsche uses its just an example of one I found online and what it's designed to do.
I thought at first that yes my regulator was gone but no it turned out to be the pulley on the alternator. Look up vw forums lots of threads there about this.
Just giving an alternate possible issue as it was with mine.

Gracias senior
Glad to help, someone should post the regulator part numbers in the knowledge section. God knows I'm always look for cross referenced numbers. Like who knows the cross reference numbers for the front parking lights. Oem is a h6w (halogen 6 watt) bax9s socket(copper base with offset pins) can't find a suitable replacement bulb anywhere outside the dealer and yikes! Really? Seen LED ones on line cheap. It don't think they will be very bright. So if anybody knows? And sorry about hyjacking this thread.
Rep points of everybody!!
