996 Turbo remap

Got an offer today from a dealer for a 996 TT.
Car looks stock except that was remaped to 480hp by Porsche.
Can such an increase in hp be done by just remapping? Can the official Porsche do such a thing?

480BHP? Yes, this is possible with just a map. Especially if it's an X50 already.

If not x50 it would probably be a little less. How do you know it's 480? Do you have a dyno sheet?

I don't think Porsche did the tune. I also bet your 4S doesn't exceed 340.

I bought my 996 TT Cab 3 years ago and specifically was looking for and got Tip. I don't agree it's a negative. It makes the car very easy to manage in the city while retaining the performance when needed/wanted.

Perhaps look into getting the Tip remapped also. I had both TCU and ECU remapped when I did my upgrades to exhaust and intake. The TCU upgrade software made the car more responsive. Not sure though if anything to gain if only the ECU reflashed.

Just becasue the tune isn't from the manufacturer (it isn't) don't discount it's value. A mild tune on a tippy can really transform the car.

Is clutch life longer with Tip? How can Tip be remapped?

The way I look at it is... Tip is only negative if you want more than 700 crank hp due to the rebuild of the tranny. Otherwise, the pros and cons between 6speed and Tip are somewhat washed out.
