I'm curious why some think the 997 is an upgrade from the 996 especially with all of the money and time spent modifying their respective 996 TT's.
Personally I'd love to add a Bentley GT but no plans to trade the 996 X50 in anytime in the near future.

I agree. 996T is THE best. It the first of the modern Porsche Turbo's with the ***** and get-and-go of a supercar and it will remain that way. The later cars just have too many nanny systems and basically wipe your backside... Why??? One of the traits of the earlier cars is the excitement, the brush with danger (tail coming out on you in a hurry). When I see the Panamera, outside and inside... it no longer has "Dass Gewisse Etwas" . Is it faster? yes... Is it larger ? Why?? Is it more refined? So what?? It is also boring and is now getting just another model in the Porsche line-up rather than the LEADING model..

In some cases a 997tt is 10 years newer then a 996tt. How could you not consider it to be an upgrade? Everything from the ground up is built better and newer on a 997tt compared to a 996tt.

There are numerous reasons to consider the 997TT as an upgrade in my view.

1. Front end (and overall) styling
2. Interior upgrades (big step forward in many cases)
3. Superior AWD drivetrain

New does not equal better, at least in a few things ... I am not certain that Porsche has yet to equal the 993 platform. I still regret selling my last 993, and will not make that mistake again with my 996tt. Keepers all of them.

When you drive a car for 10 years, then you get a Brand New model of the same car it equals better.... all the time every time.

Your exactly right, Porsche has yet to equal the 993 Platform... instead they have blown it out of the water.

If you take sentimentality out of the equation and compare product to product it is pretty obvious that Porsche has come a long way.

If you went to a car dealership with no knowledge about cars and they had a 993tt 996tt and a 997tt on the showroom floor for the same price tag I have a funny feeling you would be driving the 997tt out of there.

Totally agree. The 996 is the FIRST modern Porsche, the 997 T is merely a refresh if you are talking about the 997.1 ( still has the Mesger engine). If you talk about the 997.2, that has a new engine... still not being used in hard races therefor unproven for hard work and modding. The 996T will be a classic.. hang on to it...
